i had the same problem. first with an alesis photon x25, which i blamed on it's own drivers. the exact situation occured after buying an m-audio axiom25. from there we suspected the bug was living in a dark crevice of my harddrive, so i decided to format.... same problem after reinstallation.

make sure your not having a power issue. i'm pretty sure that was my problem when i couldn't find my controller in any device menus.

i'm no computer/midi genious, but i believe my PSU was only sending enough power through USB to turn the controller on and light up the LCD, but was too weak to pull ...
