I believe I found the solution. I tried updating the drivers as suggested but that didn't help. Then I noticed my G drive (where some samples are kept) was showing as being offline. I fixed that drive (I don't think it's long for this world), restarted Ableton, and poof! Fixed!

Super weird.

Thanks for the thorough response. I started looking into gain staging more.
