Re: Master songs individually or all together in an album/EP?

Thanks a lot Tarekith. You know what, I'm not joking, I think I am beginning to understand. I just listened to the samples on your site...it's all coming together...the understanding on how to get the sound Re-listening to Com Truise now...it doesn't sound as mystical as I remembered...I was referri...

Re: Master songs individually or all together in an album/EP?

Happy to answer any questions or clarify if you need, just ask. Yes, thanks. When musicians deliver their audio to mastering engineers, have they applied anything on the master channel of their track at all? Completely clean or is there usually something there -- some glue compression? Does it make...

Master songs individually or all together in an album/EP?

In order to make a consistent-sounding, volume and everything, album or EP of music, I’ve seen that people master all the tracks in the album together, basically applying the same mastering processing to all the tracks. Do I understand correctly? This puzzles me. What if some tracks of the album wer...

Centralizing project files...

Am I correct to assume that it's NOT a good idea to directly edit project files (Ableton sets but also Photoshop and Illustrator files) from this Firewire hard drive that has no cooling whatsoever, gets very hot when used and has 6 years of life? http://www.amazon.co.uk/LaCie-Little-Design-Hecht-Fir...

Tips for better monitor positioning?

Can somebody help me figure out where I should place my desk and monitors for more accurate sound? They are Yamaha HS80ms. I have made some rough interactive panoramas, so you can get a sense of my studio space. It's a pretty irregular and asymmetric room so it's not easy for me to underdstand where...

Re: Studio desk against wall or in the middle of the room?

thank you everyone. fishmonkey, I did a sinewave test a few weeks ago. As I suspected, I dont get good bass listening. I am always fighting with bass being all over the place. Some notes resonate terribly and others are muted. What I dont understand is - shouldnt the phenomenon apply to mixed releas...

Studio desk against wall or in the middle of the room?

When I bought the Yamaha HS80M monitors, all I read in the instructions, repeated more than once, was that it was better to have them at a distance from any of the room's walls. This baffled me as basically all recording studio pictures I've seen, even when they have plenty of space, have the desk a...

Re: Monitors connected to small mixer; do I need "proper" audio

Also the topic of audio interfaces is so incredibly...confusing and boring, I just want to buy one and get over with it. It definitely won't make my mixes worse. I surely would NOT buy a 500 bucks Apogee interface now - but I'm very, very curious to know as to what difference it makes - reading tech...

Re: Monitors connected to small mixer; do I need "proper" audio

I'm all for not spending money. But the noise does come from the mixer. And it clips too soon with the monitors. And incredibly soon with the headphones. Now, the headphones don't distort as easily just by using the regular out on the Mac. That's why I blamed again the mixer. "Headphone amps in...

Re: Monitors connected to small mixer; do I need "proper" audio

Oh yeah but I meant leaving the SWITCHES on the monitors on - by then turning off the main power. But this means they will be turned on first when I turn on the main power socket and then turn on the computer with the attached interface, provoking that burst I have avoided since the very first times...

Re: Monitors connected to small mixer; do I need "proper" audio

Thanks for the replies guys. The hum I get right now on the monitors is a bit annoying, and supposedly it comes from the mixer. Second, it would be nice to not have that burst of sound when turning the monitors on before I turn the interface on, as it happens now, forcing me to turn each monitor on ...

Monitors connected to small mixer; do I need "proper" audio

I know little about audio interfaces. When I bought my Yamaha HS80M monitors, I just bought the cheapest device I could find in shop right away to connect them to a Mac computer. It's a Behringer Xenyx 302USB. I've been using this steup for about a year, and the clerk at the equipment shop is urging...

Mixing drum loops...

To achieve punchiness, I always use individual samples for each percussive sound and compress and EQ each of them, and then group them together and compress and EQ the whole group. And this of course is common practice. But I would sometimes like to use sampled loops and breaks instead of individual...
