7200 rpm: Internal vs. External

Recently upgraded my internal HD to a 7200 rpm. Wondering if running all Live samples of the internal disc is better/faster than using my 7200 rpm external Firewire HD. Any way to test ? Both methods seem acceptable.

You may need more RAM. Unless of course you can't install any more. I had a problem with a large live set made in Live 3 which would not open in Live 4 in OS X. Opened fine in OS 9. When I upgraded my RAM from 512 to 768 MB RAM it opened in OS X.

Hey Krikor,

I think it is definitely related to Ram. Try deleting some FX and vsti's if you are using them and see if it helps. Good luck.

I just solved this problem on my 1ghz G4 titanium laptop by installing more RAM. I've got 768 now and things are running smoothly. I'll up it to 1 gb soon.

well, I've gone back to OS 9 with Live 4.0.4 Will do some more testing tomorrow but the screen latency is still much better in OS 9 and I'm not getting any audio drop outs when triggering scenes in a large set that was made in Live 3. I guess Live 4 still needs some work in OS X. telepathic regards,...

Well, I'm using a 7200 rpm Firewire drive and I'm still getting poor performance. So I wouldn't say it's the drive.

well, I tried this out. Opened up the Live 3 set in Live 4. Then saved it as self contained. I then went in to the folder and deleted all the .asd files because they were originally created in Live 3. Reopened the set now in Live 4 so it would create new .asd files for all the samples. I was hoping ...

Large Live 3 set in Live 4

Still experiencing lots of glitchiness and audio drop outs when opening a large Live 3 set in Live 4. My Live set uses about 150 lines of clips in 11 tracks. Not all the scenes are full of clips. When triggering a full scene is when I hear lots of glitches and drop outs. I'm on a 1 ghz G4 titanium P...

I never grabbed 3.02 If I remember correctly, most of the fixes were for Windows machines.

Is this why you prefer 3.02 Guest ?
