Re: Ableton is crashing upon opening!
It's most likely because you've got an old version of Reason installed and its rewire connection is causing Live to crash. Either uninstall Reason or update it to a version that is compatible with High Sierra: https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001771524-Live-crashes-on-launch-due-to-an-o...

Re: Krafty Kuts thinks "The Glue" plug-in beats the Glue in Live
As proof that the Ableton guys do listen to suggestions, they've implemented something I've been asking for a while now, for EQ8 to go down much lower. In Live 10 it now goes down to 10 hz.

Something I requested a long time ago has now happened, EQ8 now goes down to 10hz in Live 10ze2be wrote: I would like eq8 to reach down to 10hz like all other similar vst eqs, exactly so you can use a hp filter without forceing the lowest bass notes to -3db!

Re: Sample rate consequences for third party plugins
Most plugins use oversampling in the filter sections at least, Abletons stuff is all mostly 4x oversampled. So that means if the computer is running at 41.1kHz then the oversampled synth filter is calculated at 176.4kHz. 4 times faster. So 48k becomes 192k internally, oversampled. Anything which ca...

Re: Sample rate consequences for third party plugins
Hi there, For years now I've been under the impression that Live's sample rate does not make a major difference to overall sound quality of a piece of music made in Live. Numerous audiophile debates online would make you want to believe otherwise, but many notable audio engineers and artists who I ...

Re: Krafty Kuts thinks "The Glue" plug-in beats the Glue in Live
I really like Krafty Kuts so its awesome to hear he likes using The Glue! The Ableton guys do listen, but it takes time to get stuff done. There are plenty of updates and changes going on for the better so please be patient. As for The Glue vs the Glue Compressor device, the do have exactly the same...

Re: Excessive CPU usage with Sampler use the new filter models
Want better sounding filter models? It doesn't come for free. Either freeze or use the original filters. new filter algorithms are efficient and use a fixed amount of CPU. for example, - Sampler 16 voices, Filter off : 2% CPU - Sampler 16 voices, Filter on (Clean) : 5% CPU - Sampler 16 voices, Filt...

Re: Possible bug: EQ Curve changes with sample rate...
in the nitty gritty guts of digital filter design it is common to use the "normalized frequency", which is the frequency divided by the sample rate. if you then change the sample rate, then the frequency of filter shifts. whilst you might want or expect the frequency to remain constant wh...

Re: Possible bug: EQ Curve changes with sample rate...
My guess is that this is not unusual behavior at all. Depending on how a filter is designed I can imagine that the base sample rate could have a substantial impact on how it functions, and this might very well be the case with EQ8's filters (I'm assuming EQ8, but the OP never said which device/plug...

Re: Possible bug: EQ Curve changes with sample rate...
The EQ shape does change with sample rate, this happens to all digital EQ, it's called "cramping". If you change sample rates you will have to expect the sound of your mix will change. To minimise this change I suggest doing your whole project at the higher sample rate to begin with. Anoth...

Re: 9.5: Automating Filter Freq on updated devices - broken
Hi Andy, thanks for the reply! The problem i was posting about here is not specific to your filters though (i'll change this thread's misleading subject title shortly). The issue here is that Ableton added a smoothing behaviour to the filter when automated, no matter which filters are being used - ...

Re: New Operator filters aren't resonant at all
i f•••ing LOVE Operator and have used it for many years but since 9.5 it's been screwed. Ableton seems to have shoehorned in the new filters without making the proper adjustments to make them work correctly, and they changed the filter smoothing behavior when cutoff is automated - making the filter...

Re: New Operator filters aren't resonant at all
the Filter Drive for the new filters is pretty useless it seems like ..... i guess i put it on max and thought that would really bring out the squelches but seems to kill them...instead.... actually, if you add just a touch of the new Filter Drive on top of what i said then it does add something......

Re: 9.5: Automating Filter Freq on updated devices - broken
here's an audio comparison. exact same project file, opened in 9.2.3 first, then in 9.5: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/78200/9.5filterprob.wav I did point this out to the guys at Ableton that they needed to "pad" the input signal levels to the new filters more (i.e. lower the input ...

Re: Live 9.5
Rather than create a new thread, I'll post my filter question here since I saw so much great filter info here posted by Andy of Cytomic. It was stated in a post earlier in this thread that the new 9.5 filters are MD (medium resolution) in real time. However, when rendered to audio are they also MD,...
