does anybody know if there's such a thing as a usb to midi converter that allows you to run a korg nanokey (or similar) as a standalone midi controller which can communicate with harware via a standard midi cable?

if you want variations on your existing loops/sections/whatever you could try using an additive synth like Image Line's Morphine which has a resynthesize feature - resynthesize parts of your track and manipulate them for variation!

might add something to your:

- add a countermelody
- add a ...

i'm trying to find lossless format hip-hop acapellas to buy either as downloads (flac, wav, aiff etc) or just on cd.

however, apart from the couple of jay-z acapella cds and the few flacs on boomkat i can't find much.

beatportal advertises that it has acapellas but i found the sum ...

that fennesz info is interestin - i caught him in york last year doin a laptop only thing, he does use max/msp (he said in one interview a while ago he performs with a patch his friend made) but i didn't pay attention to much else.

hehehe true - mebbe you're right. it just seemed odd that people chose hardware desks instead of routing their kit through an external soundcard/audio interface on their laptop and using a midi interface to control it. i'd assumed it was one obvious solution but no-one i've seen seems to employ it ...

hmm. the minimising sound thing sounds interesting- the artists i mentioned seem so into sound design i wasn't sure how they'd approach live performance in that respect...would it be seen as compromising the original material or optimising for performance...
