Re: noise drone still plays when external instrument is stopped

Record it, add a little phaser and reverb, and put out an ambient/drone album? :) Seriously though, check the obvious thing first - if you unplug the Profit from your A/D does the noise stop? If so, check the outputs of the Profit through a different monitoring system - maybe there is some weirdness...

Re: Different effects per part. Can't figure out how to do it.

Sorta. Depending on the effect you can set clip automation to control the wet/dry mix to effectively bypass the effect for that particular clip, but device off/on doesn't appear to be automatable like it is in the arrangement view. Not sure why the automation options are different between the two vi...

Re: Put Utility on multiple tracks

Turning the gain up on all your tracks to then turn it down is redundant. Your problems are elsewhere methinks. This. Running low levels inside Ableton will not add noise. Are these tracks recorded externally? Because it sounds more like a gain staging issue while tracking to me. If that's the case...

Re: Sidechaining to layered kicks

there's no need to do all that things, unless You really want to have a extremely accurate attack, which is not that good idea. All You need is to set the side chain to the drum rack track and set the inner compressor filter to sort the sound w/ lowpass and freq set to ~90Hz. You'll get a full drum...

Re: Ableton killing sustain signal when letting go of last note

It's a bug with certain Ableton instruments, I forget offhand which ones - it's been a long while since I've messed with Ableton's synths at all. Other Ableton instruments and all third party instruments (that I'm aware of) work just fine. To the OP, if you can try a different controller - that may ...

Re: Anyone using a modular synth with Ableton?

Can I ask you what you run the triggered sample into? Which module? I run the audio signal into an A-119 and use the gate output to feed either the trigger input on an A-160 (when I need different divisions on the pulse), or straight into the external clock input on an Oberkorn (for basic sequencin...

Re: Ableton killing sustain signal when letting go of last note

Not totally sure, but what you're describing sounds an awful lot like this issue: https://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=151861 It appears to be a problem with certain Abelton instruments, but not all. This is an old thread and I had hoped it would have been corrected in the last couple o...

Re: Anyone using a modular synth with Ableton?

Honestly I've found the trigger sample method described by adh82 to be more accurate than the clock output on my A-190. Used in conjunction with a clock divider a single pulse works real well for timing purposes. I haven't messed with the CV outputs though, and the A-190 only has 2 anyway.

Re: How can I duplicate a sample in the sound editor?

I used the "4 G chords" as an example- but here's another. Let's say I play a pattern twice. 2 takes- each take 4 bars, for a total of 8 bars, 2 measures. I'm recording into the session view. Lets say I like the first take- but I still want the whole thing to last 2 measures. So when I'm ...

Re: How can I duplicate a sample in the sound editor?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to do, but if you've got a clip with 4 G chords and then 4 C chords and you just want to play 8 G chords, why don't you just select the 4 G chords and have the shortened clip play twice? You can also duplicate the clip in the same track and use the launc...

Re: bass loops

A bunch of the loops hit SoundCloud's free account 100 download limit, so I had to buck up and get a paid account. Download links for all loops are back on-line. Plus, my new CD has been duly completed so I have no more excuses - I'll have new loops loaded soon! An open offer - if you need live bass...

Just freeze the track with the warped clip then grab the generated file out of the Samples folder.

Oh yeah - I never think about grouping tracks because I still do a fair bit of my writing on a Live 7/G4 machine. Can you group a single track though? I forget.

Re: automation messed up

Sometimes the back to arrangement function isn't what you want, especially if you were lowering overall volume on a track to avoid overloading a physical output. I mimic Logic's mixer setup where every physical output is assigned a blank audio track set to 'no input' and then monitor in. I then assi...
