Re: CPU spikes

Have you got ACPI Battery enabled in your PC hardware?
Sounds like you have if you are getting windows feedback of your battery state.
This generally causes IRQ spikes in the PC. Disable it,
Run Dplatency check software and see if you are getting spikes.

Re: Virus 4.5.0.16 Beta crashing Live 8.2.2

i have live 8.2.2 and the new beta virus OS.in a TImk1. The VC is overloaded i think. Its USB port is taking too much these days from the usb bandwidth available in the computer. it crashes my audio card with it. even on longer latencies. (blue screen stuff). i have XPSP3. 32bit. I have tuned the la...

Re: External Instrument?

My only comment is you dont have to use external instruments for ext. hardware. you are not alone. most professionals use hardware by choice. in fact the no hit to cpu makes a better set up. one thing i would recommend is record in as high a frequency and make the sample rate as high as possible. yo...

Midi Control in Session mode across clips

I noticed something which is painfully in apropriate in Live8. Has anybody else seen this? When clips are recorded with MIDI control changes, example cut-off and volume changes (standard midi no.74 and 7) any following clips in the same track that have no control messages recorded seem to be having ...

Re: Touch Screen Operation GUI

Theres no reason why a GUI cant be placed along side the ableton editting software on the native pc. theres no need for external hardware. touch screens are larger and less expensive. all the ipad does is give a touch screen to ableton.

Re: Korg nanoKONTROL

I am on my third Audio Laptop and all of them have required the wifi card to be disabled with at least switching it off. and after spending the last 7 years on forums such as kvr etc; it seems pretty common through out. the app site suggests wifi as the connection. which disturbed me about its relia...

Re: Solid State Drives?

I have heard from a very PC literate engineer that SSD have still not come of age. They are reputed to be lightning fast (see You Tube). Also the advice i got was that the INTEL ones are the most reliable. the rest can fail. not all INTEL SSDs are ok. so dont trust the SSD for back ups only operatio...

Re: Lap Top: recommendation please.

you are probably anti-Dell but my vostro 1720 runs lightning reliable with just a few tweaks in XP32Bit. my feeling is there is something hidden in dell's drivers in win7 64bit machines that spikes as i tried recently on another Dell machine with that OS. i disabled everything in device manager and ...

Touch Screen Operation GUI

Touch screens have been with us for a while now but the cost is coming down and laptops are starting to see them. This will be a first if Ableton do it.... a touchscreen friendly operation GUI sitting along side the editing application.. this will be a winner i thinks. could be configurable as a con...

Re: Korg nanoKONTROL

get the launchpad. its totally and easily the best controller for ableton with matrix pads. midi feedback is the norm in that controller. ie. leds (same colours too!!!) in ableton light up on each pad and very fast. Actually Launchpad only has 3 LED colors. If you want full visual feedback with the...

Re: midi lag....

there's two types of midi drivers that you can select in the preferences. mme and direct. the modern one is to use the direct driver as this carries full time stamping and generally yields better results in modern os's. it could be you have the wrong driver selected. also. ... there is a track delay...

Re: Korg nanoKONTROL

I've been thinking of getting the nanoPAD for a while and just saw the Akai LPD8 yesterday and now I'm thinking I'd rather have the Akai that the Korg. i wouldnt recommend the nano pad. Korg have a major problem with quality control with this unit. many many if not all are failing. The pads go on t...

Re: Moving loop-position inside a clip with buttons?

That method will work however the Clip Length will really effect it, basically it'll divide the CLip Length into 127 parts and each change of velocity will move the loop by that amount, it will of course only work on the clip you have focused on at that time.... I'm yet to see a way of doing it on ...

Re: Freeze/Copy and Paste.

It is cool and you can freeze it with compressor. someone knows their thermodynamics. i fell asleep during most of those lechtures. its charles law that i do remember. i think ableton should have renamed freezing to something else as really it produces calculated wave files like export. freezing in...
