Re: LIVE 9 : PDC IMPROVED OR NOT ?

By the way - I again did check S1Pro audio PDC behaviour - with plugins that introduce ~ 300ms plugin delay. And wow: When I click on <play>, the sound immediately starts - no 300ms delay, no delay at all (except for the 4ms ASIO delay). Guess they are precalculating the audio (the first 300ms...). ...

Re: LIVE 9 : PDC IMPROVED OR NOT ?

I've found that for me, 88.2 24bit 1024 size buffer works on my largest projects Thanks leisuremuffin, I'll give it a try and report back soon. tbh I have to say that I didn't use live often after discovering this issue. I do not perform live at all. It's really been frustrating for me to do songwr...

Re: LIVE 9 : PDC IMPROVED OR NOT ?

Live is more likely to get muddy phasey mixes. Why? Because there are two obvious problems. 1. Automation isn't compensated. 2. Live has odd behavior that adds up buffer delay every time you insert vst. No other host does this. 2nd issue aggravates 1st issue more than the other hosts. That's what p...

Re: LIVE 9 : PDC IMPROVED OR NOT ?

I don't know about that but I think working with consistent settings start to finish is the way to go. And I also think it's best to use the highest sample rate that you can handle. Not for fidelity but for lower latency. 512 samples is obviously faster at a higher rate. Hmm, these may be good prac...

Re: LIVE 9 : PDC IMPROVED OR NOT ?

I've never been bothered by this, and I'm not just doing rock music, and I do post-production, and I use a lot of plugins... but only Live/m4l's native plugins. Most of the live plugins introduce no or not significant delay - and the plugin buffer doesn't apply for built-in plugins. So you're the l...

Thats what i think too:
they have no code brains for the engine. They do some dev outside the core product. Ie instruments, ui stuff etc. But they dont touch the engine. Poor.

Re: No delay compensation for Automation??

At live8 times I got written confirmation from ableton that audio engine will be rewritten in the next major release to solve this. So I kept the product. Nowadays they say that they are aware but cannot promise the solution anymore. Thatswhy i keep on complaining. Why did you decide to keep old pr...

Re: No delay compensation for Automation??

I'm not sure where you're getting the idea that automation not being compensated would cause muddy sound, either. It will mean that change in parameters will be delayed, not that the actual output of the plugin will be delayed. You may be slightly confused. if instrument volume adjustments are not ...

Re: No delay compensation for Automation??

IIRC they added the lines of the explanation in the manual about that PDC won't work for automation. If you bought this software before that I think you would have contacted them about it as soon as you realized that it won't compensate plugindelay for automations. You could have refund or somethin...

Re: LIVE 9 : PDC IMPROVED OR NOT ?

I'm just lucky in that the type of music I make (metal/rock with occasional electronic elements) really doesn't require all that much in the of ridiculous numbers of tracks with tons of plugins. If my type of music did, I'd be just as pissed as the ones are who are complaining about this. I'm just ...

Re: No delay compensation for Automation??

I discovered this 'quirk' when i was quite a way through many many detailed projects, where the automation is key to subtle but fundamental shifts in the sound design. I increased my audio buffer as my track count increased and realised that something was askew, searched for a reason why and eventu...

Re: No delay compensation for Automation??

Deciding that something is a fault rather than a quirk changes nothing. The tool works the way it does. Figure out how to use it the way it works right now, or use something else. I didn't buy a tool. I didn't want a tool. I did buy an expensive DAW promising proper PDC. At a _later_ stage ableton ...

Re: LIVE 9 : PDC IMPROVED OR NOT ?

For sure, question ist how often... I do it ~twice a year - at every update. This thread has nearly 18000 views, there are tons of threads just in the live forum about automation PDC and I personally know good musicians who did quit live because of this issue, so there seems to be some interest ;-) ...
