Never need the expression pedal, but having both ports assigned to the loop function on seperate tracks would be awesome for live jam situations. 2 People could be in control of their own loops via their own sustain pedal.

The only thing that comes to mind is the Korg Nanokontrol 2. It has faders and knobs but it has 3 LED driven buttons next to each fader and the editor is great and they are really cheap. People used to use InsomniaX for this kinda of thing, you might want to check that out. Basically make it behave like there's and external keyboard/display plugged when there isn't.
