Re: Ground hum or broken condenser mic?

Swishniak: Yeah, fist thing I tried was a different XLR but no luck. Guess that would have been too easy!

Invol: Hm, I'd probably find one of those useful whether it solves my problem or not. I'll have a look around next time I'm going past an electronics shop

Ground hum or broken condenser mic?

Just moved house, so I've packed away all my stuff and now set it all up again. When my condenser mic is plugged in, there's a consistent deep hum, which whilst not unbearably loud is still a huge pain in the ass. The sound quality is fine other than the hum. Wondering if someone can recommend a goo...

Re: novation launchpad + korg nanokontrol

Depends how deep you want to go - what sort of problems are you having? I found that when I first used it I loaded up it's automapper software and messed around for ages til I realised that for straightforward stuff like mapping sliders / knobs I could just use the Live midi learn and not use the au...

Re: Kicks and snares sound like junk :/ Help please

Also on another note I have seen tutorials where they EQ all the bottom end out of the kick. Am I missing something here do I not want the kick to have a good bottom end? Again, this will depend on the rest of the song - most notably the bassline. The lower end of a kick and a low bassline occupy t...

Re: Opinions on playing guitar live through Ableton...latency?

I work with about 20ms latency, it's not really noticeable to a listener it's just a case of getting used to that ever-so-slight delay when you're hitting the strings. What I realised is that Guitar Rig is just too hungry for live use, assuming you have other stuff going on in your set (beats, synth...

Re: Riots Spreading in London

I've been in North London today doing some flat hunting, as it happens. All my friends warned me not to go, but to be honest the vast majority of London is business as usual. The news reports show about 20 different individual streets where shit is going down, but considering how fucking massive Lon...

Re: About Audio Card/interface and Monitors.

Some good advice there, but I'm not 100% sure savyyourrecords is completely correct regarding the interface, although I'm hoping that someone can step in and let me know either way. It's true that you might get lower latency, but this is entirely dependant on the drivers and the type of interface. I...

Re: Midi triggering at any point?

I think because of the nature of midi, it can't work like that. the midi note is triggered at the start and the length of the bar only decides how long the note is held for - starting half way doesn't trigger the note itself so nothing is heard. It kinda makes sense why this is the behaviour - when ...

Re: General Noob question

Dusty... Yes, there is way to do that. Start Live, then simply setup the environment which you want to have when you fire up the program. Then go to the preference screen (control ,) and check the "File Folder" tab. At the bottom there's an option called "Save current set as default&...

Re: Random Questions

1. If you feel like it would be beneficial to seperate them out and treat them differently, then there's nothing stopping you from doing it. I think a lot of the time when people talk about having one channel for attack and one for body / sub, it's more in regards to layering different samples to ma...

Re: TRacks3 not recognized in Live 8 with Windows 7

I'm not familiar with TRacks, so this is just a stab in the dark, but is it a 32 bit / 64 bit thing? Even though W7 is 64 bit, you'll still need to run 32 bit VSTs in Live because it doesn't support 64 bit.

Re: I feel better about my age

It's incredible to me how caught up most morons are with celebrities these days. The cult of personality... I read not so long ago that they did a survey of kids in the UK asking what they wanted to be when they grew up, and the majority said they wanted to be "famous." Not "famous a...

Re: Where would you move to work on (your) music full time?

While it's obviously true that only rich people with rich parents live in london, I believe Berlin is one of the cheapest major cities in Europe. It's one of the reasons it's full of artists. Berlin has its obvious plusses and minuses. I'm curious about London: How cheaply could one reasonably find...
