MIDI keeps stopping in the middle
Hi, trying to make a shepard's tone and I have three instances of a MIDI note going for 8 bars: F#2, C3, and F#3. The F#3's audio keeps stopping at the end of the 6th bar and its driving me nuts. I tried playing the notes myself, and the F#2 sustains longer than the F#3. Any idea what's goin on? edi...

Re: Why do I need music theory when I have "Scale" and "Chord"?
the way you speak of music, referring to how the computer can just do it for you, leads me to suspect your trying to make music for other people or just for the sake of making music, rather than making music because you enjoy it. If you truly enjoy music and creating it you would do anything possib...

Re: Why do I need music theory when I have "Scale" and "Chord"?
it sounds all fine and dandy to learn music theory, but a bunch of these DJs are doing more than just "getting by" with no training. if i dont need theory to produce good electronic music, then id rather utilize that time more wisely, i.e. learning my primary DAWs and VSTs more in depth. ...

Re: Why do I need music theory when I have "Scale" and "Chord"?
to the dude asking if he should learn that ish or not. i think it boils down to this: its not about whether or not you need it to produce a good song. there are producers out there that without theory knowledge are makin killer tracks. i feel this might hinder your general workflow or maybe cause c...

Re: Why do I need music theory when I have "Scale" and "Chord"?
These are all valid points and I thank you for them--even the stinging ones, ha. But I know that many of today's producers don't know much about music theory. I asked Markus Schulz in person and he said he took one music theory tutor class and quit--but still makes beautiful, epic trance leads and m...

Why do I need music theory when I have "Scale" and "Chord"?
So I've been learning music theory, relative and perfect pitch, etc. in order to give me a solid musical basis for my production. But today I just discovered the scale and chord functions, and all of a sudden I can create all these wicked chords--the very reason for my interest in music theory. I kn...

Re: How do I beatmatch an acapella w/ no instrumental as ref?
i usually just play the original track and the accapella version on top of each other and adjust the warp markers on the accapella placing warp markers where required (roughly every 2 bars). then you've got an accapella which can be played at any tempo. but since you know the bpm why don't you just...

How do I beatmatch an acapella w/ no instrumental as ref?
In my mashups/bootlegs I usually take the acapella and instrumental of a track and line them up by transients so that I have a segment BPM that I can help guide me in order to layer it over another track. In this case, the song (Adele - "Someone Like You") is virtually an acapella in itsel...
