Re: Was Jeff Mills really doing something?

There must be something about those Detroit guys. I saw Stacy Pullen do a set many years ago and he was the same way with his records. It was like he grabbed a hand full from his house, hopped a plane, showed up to the gig and just started slapping records on the decks. He wouldn't even mix all of ...

'97ish?... it was the first time he'd been in Detroit in many years. there was a radio show Jeff had in the mid to late 80's on wjlb. it was like house and hip hop. lots of snipits of songs mixed together. not jeff mills techno. yeah.. that's what i was talking...

Re: Was Jeff Mills really doing something?

he talks about the fact that he is often using those apparently meaningless mixer movements to keep time.. not like he's counting, but rather to keep a sort of half-unconscious connection to all the tracks playing, what he's thinking about playing, etc. WAY back in the day (yeah, one of those posts....

Mashin

this has probably been discussed a few hundred times but a Search yielded me either discussions about legality or posts about completed tracks so, tbh, i almost never use the Arrangement view. all my productions are recorded on the fly. the spontaneous, not-really-planned aspect of Live is what brou...

Re: DJs: How much of a tune do you play?

Part of me thinks if a track is worthwhile and the producer wanted it to be 8 minutes, then play the whole thing, as the producer intended. I dunno, just curious I guess. if you're doing this you may has well not be there at all. create a playlist, turn on crossfade playback in itunes, hit play, go...

Re: beatport brickwall

I agree that the OP is spending a lot of time on the wrong things. I disagree that good music is the answer. Take a look, there is a lot of questionable music on Beatport that actually supports my point. barriers to entry falling is a good thing. people should be able to get into music, or any othe...

Re: beatport brickwall

basically there's too many producers you're spending a lot of time and energy on the wrong things. there may be an exponential number of "producers" these days. there is not an equivalent increase in good music. make some good music. the rest will take care of itself. make something that ...
