iMac Pro
Surprised to see nobody chiming in on Apple's new machine. I suppose it is a tad pricey, and perhaps aimed at projects that include a video component. Kinda strange, the tangerine iMac has morphed into Apple's beast. Did not see that coming. If and when a new Mac Pro gets released, a buying decision...

El Capitan compatibility?
Why is this topic still listed? Things have really slowed down around here. I think it's time to change that to Sierra. Having said that, Ableton seems to work fine on Apple's latest OS, but if you're using any Universal Audio interfaces, you'll want to hold off. I believe that UA won't become compa...

Re: What audio interfaces are you guys using?
Focusrite 18i8. Needed 4 mic-pres. Thought about the Apogee Quartet ($1300). Pondered if that unit sounds 3-4 times better than the 18i8 ($340). Figured..probably not. The content/quality going in is about 91% of the equation. Having said that, the Universal gear looks pretty dang slick, but ultimat...

The library mess
What's the advice for just starting over, from scratch (Suite).
Almost wish I could just download the physical discs that come with the actual box.
In lieu of that, how would one proceed?

Re: Waves PlugIns in Live 9
Interesting. I can only access Waves through AU on my Mac.
They don't show up in VST folder.
This only applies to Waves new V9 licensing system, not iLok.
I'll re-scan plug-ins and see if that changes anything.

"My G5 makes drums sound a lot more crunchy that my quad-core."
That's going to stick with me. I'm gonna steal that line.

That's the one problem with rMBP.

Re: I almost bought Logic Pro
Good on ya. I succumbed to the Logic deal and it's become another icon on the dock. I just don't have the patience to weed through a rather intensive program. I'm already fairly efficient on Pro Tools and Reason, and adding Logic, at least for me, was overkill. My workflow adapted to Live in a very ...

Exactly.
Can you give me an idea of what one of your sessions looks like
in terms of audio and midi tracks + plug-ins?

Re: iMac vs Mac Pro
I went for the 3.4 GHz Intel i7 iMac 27" with 8GB of RAM. I use plenty of VST/AU plug-ins and it's barely breathing. I thought I'd always use a Mac Pro but it made no sense to spend the extra dough and still have to get a monitor on a machine that has aged considerably between the last refresh....

I've got one of these. Been touring all summer with it and it's been working for me.

Re: A minimalist approach to songwriting in Ableton
Why not go all the way? Open up a piano patch or pick up a guitar and be done with it. Once you start with presets and reverb you've already exceeded minimalism. It's all quite relative to the individual's common routine. I appreciate where you're going, and it's certainly a good mind set, but it's ...
