I'm looking to add a tube preamp to my collection, preferably with variable impedance so I can use a variety of microphones (although most of my mics have similar output impedances).
Has anyone used the Avalon AD2022, or can recommend something similar but maybe a little cheaper. I'm looking for a ...

Re: a great warm jazz piano sound?
Thanks this sounds great. I will try it out with some jazz. It sounds like it has a nice mix between clean and moody.

fixing a resonant frequency in my room
I don't have much treatment in my studio space. The area is mostly carpeted (thick carpet). The ceiling is about 12-14 feet high, and the room about 20x20. It is sort of oddly shaped and has slanted walls in some spots. Actually I thought the room itself would be pretty good acoustically, however I ...

Re: a great warm jazz piano sound?
thx for all the tips guys.
I will have to check out the pianotech and the ivory. Resources are not really an issue since this is for studio work. I should also try tweaking the reason patch I was mentioning. I like how full it is, but the effects seem to ruin the dynamics a bit.

a great warm jazz piano sound?
I have gone through a bunch of piano sounds and here are my thoughts, pertaining to JAZZ piano.
1) Kontakt's NY Grand is very good, probably the best overall piano sound I've heard.
2) Ableton's piano from the EIC2 collection is very good, but perhaps not as good as kontakt's.
3) The "5 Meter ...

Re: spectrasonic omnisphere -> ableton live
I can't seem to get 64bit to work either. Ableton just doesn't see it, but I suppose I'm on an old version. My software version is 1.3.2 and patches version 1.3.1
My VST folder has another folder called "x64" where I put all my 64bit plugins, but Ableton is never seeing them. hm.

proper dB levels for a mix & for recording into Live?
I find a lot of conflicting info regarding this, and I'm sure there's no specific rule, but I would like to have some guidelines to follow. Basically I want to make sure I'm not making these values too high, and thus adding unneeded compression to my mix.

Yep, both the MIDI inputs I use are selected as MME (default settings).
Synthbuilder wrote:I may be completely wrong but have you tried changing the midi driver settings in the midi preferences section of Live? Select MME and not DirectX.

Re: getting MIDI/audio lag after using live for a while?
I don't really think its a power issue. The power supply on the PC is a very good one, and its something like 700watts (overkill). Everything is plugged into the same outlet (via a surge protecter). This includes the computer, 2 lcd monitors, the firepod interface, the krk vxt6 monitors, and my ...

Re: getting MIDI/audio lag after using live for a while?
I found the firewire PCI card is on IRQ 22. It says "no conflicts" in device manager. I also went through hall other IRQ resources and no other had an IRQ of 22.

Re: getting MIDI/audio lag after using live for a while?
Akshara, thanks so much for this info.
1) I downloaded the DPC tool and ran it for a few minutes. The absolute maximum was only 150 us. However I ran this by itself, not while ableton was running or playing audio through the interface.

getting MIDI/audio lag after using live for a while?
I cannot find any pattern to this... it seems to happen at random for the most part. I never notice it when starting a new set, but after a while I notice it, even though it is subtle.
I'm getting a slight lag when playing midi notes. I don't know if its the MIDI that's lagging, or (more likely ...

Re: studio monitor hum when computer monitor is on?
Let me just start by saying I have no power conditioner (as of yet), just a surge protector.
I have a two monitor setup (computer monitors that is). When one of them is on, I get an extremely annoying hum/buzz from my left studio monitor. Once that computer monitor is turned off, the hum is gone ...

Re: studio monitor hum when computer monitor is on?
I tried moving the offending computer monitor but it doesn't seem to do anything. If I twist it's power plug a little bit, the hum reduces but is still there.
I believe my 1/4 inch cable from the interface to the left monitor is not balanced, and perhaps a balanced plug would solve the issue as well.
