Re: Recording automation without linear interpolation
Wow, thank you for sharing this! This has to be the one thing about Live that has frustrated me, especially since I have to run it between 2 PCs (no MIDI sync, just notes/CCs/RPNs). Something as simple as choking a Hihat through MIDI continuous control has become a nightmare, and the Options.txt par...

Re: Launching a scene without launching one of the clips in it?
I propose a "Launch By:" menu in the Session Clip View. The options would be: All (default), Scene and Follow. MIDI-launch, mouse-launch & key-launch assignments on the clip would all work the same as they do now regardless of the setting.

Re: Live 8 midi timing issue
I have had MIDI jitter, sometimes seconds-long, when I tried to send MIDI Out from Live into another PC (both systems are WinXP 32bit). So I believe this is strictly an issue with Live.
My solution: An old copy of Sonar on the MIDI-receive pc. Perfect!

Re: Tricky mastering question
I would just ask whether the OP has checked all of the individual tracks in the mix for low frequency content, making sure that ensemble instruments are not stepping on ultra-low kickdrum and bass tones (75-120 Hz or so). High shelving can work wonders with careful selection of frequencies. Definite...

Re: MIDI Bank & Sub-Bank changes - what does ableton send???
Does anybody know what exactly ableton sends, when e.g. for bank you select 84 and sub-bank you select 2 ?? Also, how on earth do you send a zero? according to the ableton manual if you select 'none' it sends nothing and not zero, but numbers start with 1 Ableton will send a bank/program change mes...

Re: Session Drums controlled
He is playing a DrumKat by Alternate Mode. I cannot recommend these too highly. I have the first model (I think), the DK10. I play this live and wouldn't dream of giving it up. Some other, similar-sized multipad devices would include the Roland SPD series, and the Roland Octopad. But I've played the...

Well, I don't think it was b/c of the onboard video, because I disabled it and threw my x600 in. (At least the x600 isn't fried). Screw it, I'm back to my old system and it is rock solid. But I think I fried the PCIE bus on the K8N neo4, somehow. Oh, well. It works just fine with a vintage S3/Virge ...

Wha? Sampler has no timestretch? Damn, even simpler has that. Oh well, one more reason to stick w/ soundfonts for my drumkits (and Simpler) . It would be nice to have some basic polyphonic modulation of sample playback speed, independent of pitch. Even Simpler's cheezy Vel. to stretching feature is ...

Thanks for the response. what you say jibes with my experience as well. With a couple of exceptions, which you mentioned, most of the improvements are made either by physically swapping things around, or changing BIOS settings. On that note, I am thinking about the APIC mode setting in the BIOS. It ...

By shared graphics, does that just mean onboard, as opposed to external PCI-E? I wonder what the difference would be, since they both use the same host RAM. I have heard that the Geforce 6150 is supposed to be a good choice for compatibility with audio workstations, that's one reason I went with it....

New Motherboard, New Headache
For The Love Of God, what am I doing wrong? Up until a week ago, I was enjoying creating tracks on my desktop PC. I play live electronic drums through Ableton 5.0.3. My hardware was as follows: K8N Neo4 motherboard, 2Gb 2x 1Gb of pqi single-channel DDR RAM, AMD Athlon 64 3800+ proc, 2x 160GB Western...

I'm glad I found this thread. The way I get around this? I say, screw the arrangement. I do all time sig in the clips, Global Quantization is off (I play drum triggers and have a scheme set up in Reaktor to switch scenes). So I know that doesn't help much, but you could set the quantization to the b...
