could you do it on the audio end with 2 instruments, to each their own sidechain compressors, (with huge ratios and low tresholds) feeding off each other's sidechain?

a bit more cpu hungry but should do the job.

welcome.

I think what you are looking for is the key zone editor for devices within an instrument rack. this will block certain midi notes while letting others pass through. look it up...
