Sing like you're not the singer, but the listener.

Re: the "ableton says....don't upgrade to lion yet!" post
This is why I shouldn't post when I'm sloshed. What I meant to say is that Ableton still hasn't come out with 64-bit Live to accommodate Snow Leopard. Was just being cranky.MartinOM28V wrote:Lion? Ableton still hasn't upgraded for Snow Leopard and that came out 2 years ago.

Re: whats the Difference between usb mic and normal mic?
The market for USB mics is changing so it's not a given that they are all using cheap parts or all sound inferior to normal mics. Some of the newer ones are much better than the first few iterations of USB mics. Apogee is coming out with one soon that will probably cost a lot but have excellent A/D ...

Re: most likley cause for sound breaking up.
OK, now that you've ruled out that possibility you can check the other ones methodically. I think it's easiest to track down distortion by starting at the beginning of the signal chain and working your way out. Hence in your case, Ableton-->CPU-->Audio Device-->Speakers, roughly speaking. You've det...

Re: Are there different types of mic cables?
The TRS end will definitely fit but it will not power a powered mic. Power is supplied through the XLR connector on the preamp. Also even with non-powered mic there's a considerable risk the device would interpret TRS cable as a Hi-Z input signal which translates to quieter input than using the XLR ...

Re: most likley cause for sound breaking up.
On your master track (far right) are the meters green when you're playing one or two tracks, and then go red when you've got four or five playing? If so then that's digital audio clipping, which is none of your three choices. You just need to turn down the volume on your tracks until the master trac...

Re: Are there different types of mic cables?
What you have is a "XLR TRS cable" which is not normally used as a mic cable, but for more technical studio use that is not applicable to your setup at all. Particularly if you have a powered mic you'll just need to get a standard mic cable (female XLR one end, male XLR the other). If you ...

Re: 64BIT !!!!!!!!!!!!!
As innovative and ground-breaking as Ableton has always been it's unusual that they are so late to arrive at the 64-bit dance. Hopefully they're hard at work on it and 64-bit Live is right around the corner. I can only hope so--can't wait to run Omnisphere and Trilian in Live in their full 64-bit gl...

Re: Monitor hum
Ground loop is most common problem. Lots of online help. Firewire cables can make a big difference though--ones that ship with high-quality audio devices are usually ok but generic cables tend to be noisy. Good luck
