thought i'd take time to reply as I saw this whilst looking for more info regarding OS X Lion and Live 8.

out of the 4 examples you posted - 1 is by myself and 2 others are on my label so I hope I can help ;-)

Equipment used: DSI PolyEvolver (great for warm pads playing 4 note chords), NI FM8 ...

yes, I saw that coming. After all the hype of "whow, so many things you can do with Live live" most DJs find out that they actually don't want to do too much live. And then return to traktor or CD-players.

when i look to all the computer trash that has gathered in my studio rooms over the years ..and thats only the parts that was still to valuable to throw away.. i am pretty sure that al this faster faster computer frenzy is not ...

even when this wont be tomorow... vinyl might die eventually.. at least there is a defenitiv trend towards laptop djing.. if one likes it or not..its defenetly a practical solution.. and usually the practical solutions dominates earlier or later..

K man, I can agree to disagree. I just like to watch someone spin records more than someon with their computer, regardless of the output.

and I fully respect that... like I said - I still love to hear a great vinyl set :-) But for me, I find the creative options of playing sets with Ableton ...

why not? you could probably replicate all the features of a full-on hardware rig within Ableton... and more.

I'd also hate to see live tours limited to only those acts who have a large tour budget behind them.

DJ's came first. They jockey disc on turntables that play records, even be it timecode now.

The their are CD DJs, they jockey CD's on CD turntables that play CD's
