All i want to do is delay the noteOff messages. how can you make an effect called "note length" where you can't simply delay the note off messages?

Another problem is that some times projects that were running fine suddenly start to crash when reopened startup. and if youre saving over the old file all the time you might unknowingly "corrupt" your project.

exactly, and while the freeze'n'flatten process or resampling to another track will yield the same results it is a lot more of a hassle and takes longer. Imagine you have sliced each transient in the amen break and you want to apply a different vst effect to each hit.
