Thanks for the feedback guys, I'll go with RME then.
Gonna go do some more research between the models.
I own an RME HDSPe AIO and love it.
It's so damn stable and I can run the buffer at 64 samples with ridiculously miniscule latency.
Granted, I have a tower with an Intel i7 920 chip with 12GBs ...

for the sound card, why does it have to be PCIe and not USB2 or Firewire or both?
RME Fireface UFX.. you know you want it! if you're stuck on PCIe, look at the other RME options ...

Hey guys,
I just recently bought Ableton Live 8 and this software is amazing.
However, I find that I'm being restrained and it is more difficult to use Ableton with just the mouse and keyboard.
I have a fair amount of "money to burn" and so I am looking to get a pci-e sound card, midi keyboard ...

anybody else have any experience on this?
I'm not sure if a .dll can directly "talk" to Live, but you could try setting up key maps or midi maps in Live, then have the dll send key or midi messages, respectively.
something like that wouldn't cover all the different commands I'd have a program ...
