Re: Big Ups To The Ableton Community

I find the Propellerhead registered user forum to be a consistently informative and generally good-natured board for sound design information (provided you own Reason, of course).

Re: Any tips for getting back to making music after a break?

If a lack of feedback derailed you last time, learn from your mistake and make things social for yourself. Go see some local shows and make some friends to to play with. You might also offer to record someone who's just starting out and doesn't know shit -- sometimes just going through the motions o...

Re: Pllooping Tutorial (Programmed Live Looping)

Hey, Shaun -- just posted to your tutorial's page, but figured I'd ask here, too.

Q: Would you be willing to share your plooping template file to give those of us interested in testing your system a quick jumping-off point to see if we can incorporate it into our work? Cheers!

Re: THE NEW BIG USER REQUESTS TOPIC FOR LIVE9!!!!

9.) MP3 export option! WTF!?! (Also as many other formats as you can possibly think of.) Multiple format options simultaneously as well, like bouncing a WAV and a MP3 at the same time would be nice. Wouldn't that mean Live would have to send updates ALL the time since format codecs libraries are al...

Re: the best real rock song in years.

Getting older and not being able to hear anything with new ears is a drag sometimes -- I listen to this and all I can think of is Jane's. It's like a postcard from a place I've been a million times (namely, "1991") I'm cool with building on tradition, but this shit is the equivalent of Gen...

Re: Ableton Beginner Needs Controller Advice

I'd invest in a controller before nutting-up and investing in sound reinforcement and pro monitors. No point in throwing yourself into professionalism (and its attendant great expense) before you're even making money off your music, especially if you don't yet even know how you like making music. Th...

Re: What are your bad music, writing habits?

I find myself often writing overbearing chords progressions that fall right on the beat. The best word I can use to describe it is "plodding". I do it too often. It's annoying. I realize that I really need to unlearn it and develop better habits. How about anyone else here? I've been stru...

Re: Let's talk less expensive but good hardware synths..

Really like the Novation Novas. Bought one in 02,had to sell it in 05, had to buy another in 06. Also got a K-Station for gigging which I still have but don't use near as much anymore. The Nova is just more fun to tweak around with IMO.

What a cool gesture, man -- thanks! The fact that the sound set is killer is gravy (useful, fun gravy).

Re: Still trying to decide ... why ableton?

Live has been demoted to odd jobs like being my VST/AU host, MIDI-out sequencer Odd jobs? This must be then typical mind set of Reason generation. Even with RECORD Reason is still half-assed toy as long as it doesn't send MIDI. It would really depend on one's needs whether MIDI out or any other fea...

Re: Still trying to decide ... why ableton?

Hate to say it, but as a writer, I've found myself preferring R&R for composition/arranging/recording more and more. The work-flow reminds me of my old Yamaha 8-track and the Blocks system reminds me of... err... Live's. Just as fast, but a little deeper, to be honest. Meanwhile, Live has been d...

Re: Future Music Vs Computer Music Magazine

i also agree that they both suck. really its better just to save your money and use the internet. sound on sound is getting redundant now days also. if sound on sound was mostly interviewing producers i think it would be cool but half the magazine is bullshit gear reviews . you get sick of gear rev...

Re: Got any tips for recording/mixing great sounding vocals.

If you're asking this question, I'm assuming you probably don't have mountains of gear, a tuned vocal booth, and Freddy Mercury circa 1977 on the mic. If this isn't the case, sorry if any of this sounds condescending -- just trying to be helpful. If it IS the case, you need to: 1)learn your gear so ...
