Re: In-ear headphones

Another plug for the Etymotics ER-6 - I picked up a pair a couple of years ago and find them simply amazing. The highs are so clear, and the bass is solid, not boomy or muddy. The only drawback is that you have to really ram them into your ear or you'll miss the full frequency. And unless the fit is...

Re: Does anyone uses ADAM speakers?

I use A7's, and don't feel I need a sub in the small room they sit in. I have a friend in a larger studio who has them with the sub, and the added bottom end is amazingly clear - not muddy at all. As with all things related to speakers, listening in your own room is the only thing that matters - if ...

Re: Patchname scripts

If you're on a Mac, you can run a program like CherryPicker at the same time, and it will change presets for you from bank lists - if you set up its MIDI parameters.

Re: Bass and Strings soudn awful. Any tips?

since the overtones are always limited compared to live instruments. What do you mean? Just the usual stuff about the Norquist cutoff - it cuts off the very high frequencies in the overtone series which help to define the presence and timbre of a live instrument - which makes it easier to end up in...

Re: Bass and Strings soudn awful. Any tips?

Bass is always tricky. To find a tone that really works depends on what else is going on in the piece in terms of frequency/harmonic content, as well as the bass 'role' in the piece. It is incredibly easy to arrive at a pile of mud with electronically produced sounds since the overtones are always l...

Re: What Firewire interface do you use?

Now that MetricHalo has released the ULN8, you'll see a lot of 2882's and ULN's for sale at good prices. Don't know what your budget is, but these units are top notch - sounds to me like the 2882 would suit you perfectly.

24" for Live, and the 15" MBP screen for the MetricHalo 2d Mixer, and the Yamaha XS Editor. Can't be beat!

Re: Recommended lcd monitor with Macbook pro ?

I second the advice above for a 24" - that's the size you need to start getting decent 1920x1200 resolution. I got a Samsung SyncMaster245BW, and recommend it highly.

Re: Presonus Faderport?

Using a Mac? Do you get the flashing 'Output' button when you hold down the 'Stop' button to put it into Live Mode? I had problems with this, and was told by PreSonus to install the driver update under Tiger, not Leopard. That worked for me.

Re: Presonus Faderport?

I use one, and find it works just fine. Only weird thing is that Live8 insists on sending it 15 separate MIDI messages (mixture of Channel Pressure and Controllers) for every MIDI note on/off event in the set. I don't think it's the Faderport driver, but a bug in Live 8.0.1.
