Re: Ableton and Windows 8

I just ran a LatencyMon run on Windows 8. Same setup as the previous. Here are the results:

Re: Ableton and Windows 8

No, I've disabled the motherboard audio in BIOS. I don't think I ever used it, even when I had Windows 7. The Firewire unit uses an ASIO driver, but not ASIO4All, it's a Focusrite driver. Here was the last latency check I made (in Windows 7, using Sonar). It appears to be slightly better in Windows ...

Re: Ableton and Windows 8

hat about sound drivers? I didn't see ASIO4all there, can you use on board sound without hideous latency? or do you have another sound card? If you mean me, I use Saffire Pro 14. 48kHz, 256 samples. No problems. I'm using the Saffire Win 8 drivers, Mixcontrol 3.1, and standard Windows Firewire driv...

Re: Ableton and Windows 8

By the way, I forgot to mention that I just use the Windows 8 desktop, with the Classic Shell as Start Button replacement. I have not used any Apps yet and have not seen any need to use the normal Windows 8 Start screen as I have no touch devices. Although I find Windows 8 very comfortable now, I th...

Re: Ableton and Windows 8

This is a long series of notes on my installation of Windows 8 Pro on Christmas Day 2012 up to the present. I had Windows 7 Pro SP1 (64-bit) and I did an in-place installation of Win 8 Pro from the upgrade DVD. I ordered the free Media Pack upgrade during the install and added it when the key arrive...

Upgraded Windows 7 Pro 64-bit to Window 8 Pro 64-bit (long)

I spent my holidays upgrading Windows 7 Pro with an 'in-place' install or Windows 8 Pro. In case others want to try this I will relate what happened to me. My system is rather elaborate and customize and I have a lot of system tools because I do beta testing of audio software. I need to be very care...

Re: How to make VSTs and Internet browser work at the same time?

Windows 7 supports the sharing of audio http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd371455(v=vs.85).aspx In my audio setup the volume mixer shows all applications that use audio and I can adjust their levels and/or mute them. It could be that this stuff depends on your drivers. Here is...

Debating the Fiscal Cliff

Most of my music is related to science fiction and horror themes, but nothing is as horrifying as the 6:00 news, so I bring you: Debating the Fiscal Cliff (11:28) Republicans on the right (channel), Democrats on the left (channel), and Horror in the middle. http://www.arachnaut.net/audio/Reaktor/Deb...

Maybe a new thread with a better title will help - last year's was pretty bad.

Re: How much Sample Libraries do you use / recommend?

I have an external hard drive full of sample libraries... more than I could use in a lifetime. Every once in a while when I feel my sounds are getting stale, I'll dig into them and pull out some stuff I like. I add effects, layer em up, resample, and then make a drum rack or sampler full of the mod...

Re: Live 8 Freezes with NI instruments in Win 7x64 with Internet

I have not seen this with any product by any vendor using Live.

@tintala - Reaktor has been very stable for me (and I believe most people). You should contact NI support to help you solve it.

Re: How much Sample Libraries do you use / recommend?

I really like Soniccouture's libraries. Most are available for Kontakt and some have Live sets for Simpler/Sampler. The Kontakt ones have interesting scripting effects which are somewhat emulated with Live racks in the Live sets. Here are the ones I like the most (not in any order): Glassworks Skidd...

Arachnaut: Ataris... now they had rock solid timing! Ensoniq stuff was so good too wasn't it? Always wanted a.... hang on, hijacking thread, sorry! Anyway you young 'uns. That is where electronic music comes from. And it involves terrible curtains and a lot of love. Curtains! Foiled again.
