Hi there..
Just looking at renting a small office space to work on music. There is a place across the road from me in Clapton offering one for £49 per week, which is reasonable. I am taking a look at it this weekend. Do you know of a place?
Thanks,
Etain

Looking for studio space in London
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone on here (who's based in London) had the skinny on music studio/rehearsal space rental in the Hackney area? I have looked online, but figured I would ask around here as well. Basically I am looking to rent a cheap space for my decks, computer, midi controllers, etc. ...

You can't put all the blame on banks when 90% of the population live beyond their means and run everything from groceries to holidays to petrol on their credit cards. Not to mention the thousands who were lulled into schemes to buy £800,000 or $800,000 homes when they could really only afford to buy...

Need engineer
Hi all, I am looking for an engineer based in London who is an Ableton user and who has some good hardware synths in their studio. My synth preferences are the Moog or Virus. Reason I am looking for someone is, I am writing all my own material in Live, but my tracks lack the depth and substance that...

London isn't bad if you can get past the crowds, bad weather, rude people, and the cost of living. All that aside it is a pretty cool place to live, if a little tough. I would warn you though, the economy is in the shitter at the moment so if you are planning to move here, bring enough to survive on...

Agreed. For me, production has just completed the package. I feel that just being a DJ or just being a producer is not enough, but being both feels right, like two halves becoming a whole (pardon the expression!) But like ChiDJ, it's about getting out there and networking. Friday night comes along, ...

@ Etain: But then there comes the question why you are doing what you do! I thought, first comes what you want to achieve artistically, and next comes how to achieve that. If I am a producer, I will not do a DJ set, unless I really know what I do and enjoy it. If I am a DJ, I should focus on becomi...

I agree with Robert that you don't need to be a producer to be a DJ or vice versa. I know plenty of successful DJs who do not produce their own music and many producers who have never done a DJ set. Hmmmm...I guess it depends. I always get asked for a sample CD of my own music from promoters I get ...

Why does a DJ also need to be producer? Two very different skill sets IMHO. A good DJ has to know which track to deliver to the audience in which moment, (s)he needs to have an overview of what goes on musically, has to understand the needs of different audiences etc... A producer mainly should lis...

Well those are good questions, and I will try and answer as best I can based on my experience. Promoters generally try and book talent that is widely known, so unless you know the promoter personally, chances are that you'll get booked based on the music you've released. As there are thousands of in...

No reputable agency will sign a DJ unless he/she has some releases on a major record label. Sending mix CD's is not the way anymore. Its' all about production and being signed with a label. While this may be frustrating to the average DJ, it ups the ante and ensures that people who are being booked ...
