Cross-device presets?

I'm hoping to get some guidance on a project I'm trying to implement. What I'd like to do is build a drum rack for my TR-8S with: 1. Devices on each chain with knobs for handling bi-directional MIDI CC manipulation. I already have these with ctlin/ctlout, live.dial, live.menu, live.bank (for Push 2)...

Re: MIDI output from empty drum rack?

Well, I got the velocity as gain working close enough with the Velocity device and MultiMapper (mapping each of Drive at 0-50%, Compand at 0-50%) and Output Hi (at 0-100% to MultiMappers one knob). Mapping the MultiMapper's Input knobs to Map8 device's knobs then does work but I'm stuck in that Map8...

Rename macro knobs on Map8 device?

Its auto-naming from the control that's mapped to is fine sometimes but not always, especially if your doing something like mapping 8 different knobs called "Input". How hard would it be to make the knobs re-namable?

Re: Device for velocity scaling?

I ended up getting this working close enough with the stock Velocity device and the M4L MultiMapper, mapping Drive (0-50%), Compand (0-50%), and OutHi (0-100%).

Device for velocity scaling?

I'm looking for a MIDI device that will read incoming velocity values and apply a simple %-based scaling to them, spitting out the results. The native Velocity device seems to do everything but that. Anyone know of any M4L devices or VSTs/AUs that'll do it?

Re: Note editor TimeLine. Should start with 0 . Not with 1 .

Er, no. Measure (and beat) numbers do not *measure* the amount of bars they have passed. They note where they start. This is the same for staff music and other forms of non-computer-only music (where 0-based numbering would be for an entirely different reason than yours). 1.1.1 on the far left at th...

Re: MIDI output from empty drum rack?

Covert Operators did a 16 Macro device that can be got from here for free, it's pretty old though and don't know how well it works under all conditions http://www.covops.org/max_for_live_collection/ Right. I checked that out but it doesn't seem to accept blue hand control. Mapping its knobs to the ...

Re: MIDI output from empty drum rack?

Well, turns out that my Velocity device idea does work with the External Instrument per pad setup. Given that I also figured out the lag issue I had with that setup I'm going with it as the superior setup. It's one less track to deal with and I get a way to have per-pad/drum-sound mixing even though...

Re: MIDI output from empty drum rack?

OK got it. Oddly it works fine if you use a MIDI controller to trigger the drum, set up a clip, or click the note in piano roll view, but not if yo click on the pad in the drum rack or the play button on the chain, which was what I was doing. Whoa, I hadn't even noticed that. My issue now is that t...

Re: MIDI output from empty drum rack?

Weirdly, it's not working for me and I'm on 9.6.1. Chain setup works fine but the MIDI notes don't seem to go to the listening track. I'll have another go at the weekend and try to figure out why. Basically, I just started from the setup you detailed and: 1. Removed all of the MIDI sending External...

Re: MIDI output from empty drum rack?

I can't make that work for more than a single drum pad because the receive track seems to need to be listening to the chain not the whole rack, and can only listen to one chain at once, which is how I ended up with an ext inst per pad. I used to have this problem, but in Live 9.6.1 at least I just ...

Re: MIDI output from empty drum rack?

The best way I have found is to drop an ext inst to each of the pads that play the OP-1, this enables you to name the pads for sequencing and play them with a Push or Launchpad etc. The chains should have both send and play set to the appropriate note on the OP-1 (for example the OP-1's kick is on ...

MIDI output from empty drum rack?

Is there any way to get MIDI output from an empty drum rack? That would allow me to use my Push to easily sequence drum patterns for my OP-1. Basically, I want MIDI triggered by my Push 2 to go to my OP-1 to trigger drum sounds there.

Here's a tutorial on using EQ8 and Utitlity devices to build a three-band crossover that you should be able to extend to more bands.

Re: launchpad "stealing" track focus

It's got nothing to do with the Launchpad. Look around in the preference for Select on Launch in the Launch preferences and turn it off.
