As scg already mentioned, the Expression Control m4l device is the only way to accomplish that, afaik. When I created this thread more than 10 years ago (Live was at version 8 then) the Expression Control device wasn't released yet if I remember correctly.

Alesis VI25 and M-Audio Oxygen PRO 25 Live integration
Hi I'm about to buy an Alesis VI25 or an M-Audio Oxygen PRO 25 but I can't find any in-depth information on the internet about the Ableton Live integration of these two controllers. So I have some questions for those of you who might have some experience with these two keyboards in Live: Alesis VI25...

Looking for a step sequencer M4L modulator
Hi I'm looking for a StepSequencer-type M4L modulator device like Performer or Stepper but one that can also store multiple patterns and offers the possibility to change those patterns using MIDI or another M4L device (something like CableGuys ShaperBox). Performer: https://i.ibb.co/v3GnS9M/Performe...

Re: MIDI to effects inserted after instruments using M4L
Thanks for the help, guys! You can't directly send MIDI to audio effect plugins in Live (as far as I know), and MIDI map as you would with a controller, even with M4L. I see. I find it really weird that they don't allow the effects plugin to receive midi data if they're placed after an instruments, ...

MIDI to effects inserted after instruments using M4L
Hi guys One of my biggest problem with Ableton Live (and other DAWs) was always the fact that it doesn't transmit MIDI data to the effects placed after an instrument on a MIDI track. This is extremely annoying. There are a lot of FX plugins that features powerful modulation capabilities, like contro...

Re: Just tried Maschine again after a few years
I do something similar with Ableton Live but with session view I can record as long as I want, make a loop length and just move around until I find a nice sound motif or loop section. No limitation on how long I can record, no having to set up how long I want to record ahead of time, and no having ...

Re: Getting the MIDI into the effects placed after a synth
You're basically complaining about a non issue. Really?? Having to add a secondary track for every track which contains a VST effect that I want to control using MIDI, is a "non issue" to you? Here's an example of another one related to MIDI, Ableton created the "external instrument&...

Re: Getting the MIDI into the effects placed after a synth
make a midi track, choose as midi-in your key board/controller, turn monitoring on, choose as midi-out the track your plug is on, as the sub routing your plug. Should work now It does work, and it also worked in Live 8, but I already mentioned this method in my first post: " In Live 8 I had to...

Re: Getting the MIDI into the effects placed after a synth
Thanks guys for your input! Unfortunately the MIDI mapping in Live, like Pitch Black recommended, is not what I was looking for. Of course I could do that and it would do the trick, but only partially, so this method doesn't solve my problem. For start, you cannot map velocity and aftertouch to cert...

Getting the MIDI into the effects placed after a synth
Hi guys On a MIDI track let's say I have a synth, and after that I have an effect (e.g. Turnado). I want to control some knobs in Turnado with the modulation wheel on my keyboard, but I can't do the MIDI learn on Turnado because no MIDI signal gets past the synth. This is incredible. :x :x In Live 8...

Re: Track selection (focusing) with the Launchpad?
If you're looking at the launchpad, definitely check out the LPC template by nativeKONTROL. It will let you focus tracks, control devices, and much much more. http://www.nativekontrol.com/LPC-Live.html Thank you. I checked it but I found it to be quite expensive, and also it has a lot of features I...

Track selection (focusing) with the Launchpad?
Hi guys I'm oscillating at the moment between the Launchpad and the APC20, and one thing I see the Launchpad doesn't have is the ability to select (focus) a certain track. With the APC20 this can be done be using the SHIFT + any of the 9 buttons in the navigation/track selection section. Of course y...

Modulating macro knobs and instruments/effects parameters
Hi folks I have two questions: 1. Is it possible to control (modulate) macro knobs and instruments/effects parameters using note properties (like velocity, keyfollow, aftertouch) from a MIDI keyboard? For example I might want to modulate a macro knob with how hard I press on the keys, or to modulate...
