thanks for all your help man.

well i called tech support and i disabled all the power management options on the laptop.

still no change.

its weird because as soon as i restart ableton it all works again.

well ive installed a speed step utility to ensure there is no throttling going on at all.

in my bios, the speed step options can only be turned off if i run the cpu's at half speed. (thats why i used the speed step utility)

its an onboard firewire port (4 pin) so all the power going to the sound ...

yeah i read that 2

im using firewire tho.

and im using ac power.

and the same setup works like a dream on my desktop.

im really confused!

thanks for your advice!

the thing with the midi wires... it works with my desktop so it cant be then can it ?

and i checked the power management options, your right, there is some options for usb... but not for the firewire port, its only a 4 pin connector anyway so it is not bus powered ...

midi controller problems (midi in signal dies)

hey guys!

whichever version of ableton i try, after a short while my midi in on my laptop seems to die! hence i cant use my controller.

i know the output is working because the tempo led on my faderfox still flashes... and when ya up the tempo in ableton it changes.

im using an m-audio firewire ...
