Re: vst's not working/causing crashes

Seem to have sorted it. The .dll files were not recognised by ableton. I went into my vst folder, right clicked one, went to open with, then selected ableton. Now they open and work with no issue at all.

vst's not working/causing crashes

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I've had ableton for a couple of months now and I thought i'd have a look at some vst's. So I downloaded a few freeware vst's, unzipped them and moved the .dll files to my vst plugins folder. Now when I open Live i get error boxes pop up with message...

Re: ableton n00b interested in dubstep but something is missing

Sorry, what i meant was the track doesn't have a defined drum track , something you can hear and say "yep, thats the drums" , although there are drums in there it sounds more like a collection of different sounds that make up the rhythm, different sounds coming in and out but all working together. ...

Re: ableton n00b interested in dubstep but something is missing

compare benga's track to this one. This one has a more defined drum track (imo) than Benga's. Thats what I meant bud, I do appreciate your help though.

Re: ableton n00b interested in dubstep but something is missing

Add pads to make a backdrop/atmosphere for the action Add leads/melody lines to give the listener's ears something to do and a story to follow Add a bar or two of auxiliary percussion throughout Add samples/clips (clips from movies/TV, Charlie Sheen soundbytes, random clips of sounds/people talking...

Re: ableton n00b interested in dubstep but something is missing

I wouldn't even know where to start with something like that. Was there even any drums in there? When i start something i always start with the drums and use that as the backbone of the track, if there was no drums i'd be screwed! How does benga use all those different sounds, get them to sound rig...

Re: ableton n00b interested in dubstep but something is missing

I'm not sure mate, sound wise it is sounds "lacking" I really can't think of another way to describe it. I think it's because all of your tracks are just drums and wobble. That's all I hear. Don't be afraid to add some more sounds to what you are doing. Your tracks need some life. Add some changes....

Re: ableton n00b interested in dubstep but something is missing

I don't think I consider anything I've written yet as "done", more a case of I can't think of anything else to do with it or don't know how to do something else with it. I don't tend to linger on one track though, if I get to a point where I hit a brick wall I move on to something else. I am practis...

"letting go of a track"? I assume you mean "this isn't going where I want it to, fuck it, I'll start from scratch"? Done this so many times its unreal! lol

Re: ableton n00b interested in dubstep but something is missing

Cheers AceLuby, I'll have a look at that now. I think one of my main problems is I've learnt how to do the stuff in tutorial videos but that is only 1 type of sound, I don't really know how to bring it all together, if you know what i mean.

I'm not sure mate, sound wise it is sounds "lacking" I really can't think of another way to describe it. I've uploaded a few songs on soundcloud here, listening will probably give you a better idea of what I mean.

ableton n00b interested in dubstep but something is missing

Hi guys, I'm after someones help or advice. I've recently bought suite 8 and i'm interested in producing dubstep. I've watched just about every tutorial on youtube there is but my tunes all seem to be lacking something. I was wondering if there was anyone on here with similar musical tastes that'd b...
