Re: Velocity of kicks
I think it mostly depends on the timbre and volume. Sometimes a higher velocity hit is mapped to a more aggressively hit sample. In these cases, it depends on what sound you want. Maybe you want the sound of the soft hit, but louder. Then low velocity with a compressor to boost gain.

Re: Anyone here use Ableton for Rock/Indie??
I use Live exclusively as my DAW, I record mostly live-instrument based music, guitar, bass, ukulele, vocals. Mostly rock stuff, but electronic music makes its way in often. Different projects call for different instruments and sounds, but Live handles it all equally in my experience.

Re: Replicating this sound....
Operator could handle it. An oscillator set to fast attack and short decay time, maybe a triangle and a sine blend. Then play it with no regard for rhythm.

Very nice. Thanks for this. Every beginner should learn these concepts, and you compiled them excellently.

On the Focusrite scarlett 18i20, 45 samples at 44100 = ~6ms and at 64 it's ~9.5.clydesdale wrote:What's the difference in latency between 45 and 64 samples?

Re: power-of-two buffer sizes, is this an improvement?
I'm grateful to have feedback on the topic. I didn't know it was an issue for anyone until I got this new audio interface. The funny thing is that I bought it to replace a PreSonus Firepod that I "felt" had grown in latency. It turns out that the problem was in Ableton Live and not in my h...

power-of-two buffer sizes, is this an improvement?
I recently posted in the Ableton Answers section and posted a support request to Ableton. In summary, here is my experience: I have a super fast PC with a lot of RAM. I have a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 audio interface. Running a release of Live 9 prior to 9.1 I can run down to 45 samples buffer size ...
