You might want to look at JAM2. It allows video playback within Ableton Live just how you would expect ableton to implement it. For OSX only.

JAM2 runs on your GPU (graphics card) so it shouldn't have any problems running on a Macbook pro as Ableton runs off your CPU. Give it a go, and test.

If your wanting to play video in session view checkout JAM2. It allow Ableton Live to playback videos/ multimedia content natively.
