Convert drums to midi doesn't use the selected sample?
I just tried the "Convert drums to midi" functionality, clicking on a chain of Gold Baby drum hits in one sample. There was a pop up and a progress bar, my sample's name was listed. Then a new drum track was open. And it was full of 606 samples, not my samples. What the heck? I'm just gett...

Wow it actually happened.
Interesting that they released it in 8 rather than waiting for 9. I think that suggests that 9 is going to be a major revamp, bigger changes than just increased functionality.

72 bit is the real business.
Seriously though, no one works at Ableton any more, right?

Re: Surprised by Blind Listening Test
Something to very careful about is matching the average loudness when doing tests like this. If the average level is just a bit higher with one option than the others, there's a good chance it will win. Even if the settings are matched between plugins, the resulting levels could be different. I wasn...

Re: Live 9 Speculation?
I wish they would give a date already. I moved on to Reaper because it sounds better (!) and I'm sequencing out of the box right now, so no advantages for Live. But I'm hanging onto my licenses (MFL too) and APC40 in hopes that 9 will kickass. If I go much longer without using it or have a date to l...

Re: What's your favorite hardware synth?
I have a Waldorf MW XT, Monomachine, Machinedrum and a budding Eurorack. I love the Monomachine the most due to its sequencer, even though it has the worst pure sounds of the bunch. It can sound sweet though and has a lot of range, excelling at super digital sounding stuff. But the sequencer is the ...

Re: Ultimate Ears by Logitech; Capital Rec Mastering: Seen this?
The standard for mixing with headphones are HD 600s or 650s. But I believe in the "don't mix with headphones" mantra. Why? Because for my first year of doing this stuff I only used heaphones and I notable damaged my hearing.

Re: Purpose of 320kbps for analog DJing?
I dare anyone to do a double-blind-test with the same audio file as .wav and as a 320 mp3. You can't hear a difference, really. (That is of course if the encoding was done properly and the source material doesn't sound like shit to begin with  ) I'm not going to go through the trouble, but wi...

I think moving the 8 version number to just "8" and the Sound Cloud promotion is prep for launching 9 / Pro in the near future. I bet it will be announced in June.

Re: Purpose of 320kbps for analog DJing?
Ha... Just FYI, you can't convert a lower bit rate file to a higher bit rate file and increase the quality. That's like...framing a painting but using a frame that is too large, leaving the rough edges visible. The bit crushing is unchanged, you just have a larger final file size.
