and the plot thickens... py-js - Simple (and extensible) python3 externals for MaxMSP https://github.com/shakfu/py-js py/js started out as an attempt (during a covid-19 lockdown) to develop a basic python3 external for maxmsp. It then evolved into a more ambitious framework for using python3 in max....

Re: How to custom map a MIDI controller for clip recording?

If scene launch is triggered on a track that is record armed, it records the clip, and then if I arm a button to session record to stop recording and play back what I just recorded, would that not work? Or is there something I'm missing? yup. the other variable to all this is the GLOBAL RECORD QUAN...

basic jitter help - midi in, bouncing colorful balls out

goal - max4Live device that takes in MIDI data and then displays note/velocity on a fretboard as dots (balls), changing colors with velocity/note off etc. have fun with it. I guess a Dance Dance Revolution kind of output would be the dream endgoal, but wherever my imagination and patience can take m...

Re: How to custom map a MIDI controller for clip recording?

it's not possible. I used to have a Launch Pad, freaking fun little box. I minimized my gear so I sold it because I LOVE my APC40. notice that when you hit ctrl-m to open midi assignments that some EXTRA controls appear in the middle along the right side of the GUI. keep toggling ctrl-m... those giv...

Re: Is there any good book about Max For Live to recommend?

OP - here's your list of books cycling74.com/books-about-max quickly browsing I noticed: https://leanpub.com/Max-for-Live-Ultimate-Zen-Guide by Julien Bayle, an Ableton legend with this stuff. these books are also great portals into stuff like Pd, Chuck, Csound... the roots of it all. IIRC those are...

Re: Is there any good book about Max For Live to recommend?

I can't thank you enough for spending the time to share your knowledge. it seemed like the microsoft tools were the way to go but even as a PC only user I flinch at installing anything from them. very very cool. I haven't installed it all yet but I'll be in good hands setting that up. and thanks for...

Re: Is there any good book about Max For Live to recommend?

 now I'm left wondering... with Python, I installed the Anaconda package to get going with that, run/write code, manage modules etc. I'm familiar with that, other than that I haven't installed software development tools at home since Turbo C in the 90s. what do I install to get going with all ...

Re: Is there any good book about Max For Live to recommend?

before I forget OP... there IS something cool to print out with max/msp to read on the beach... my memory is a bit foggy but it's the printed list of max/msp objects in alphabetical order. I can't find my old binder from that summer but it was really handy and geeky fun. the Max SDK, with which you ...

Re: Ableton Live Audio Sounds Compressed/Limited, Although No Compressor/Limiter Used

since you have all these DAWs... do something SIMPLE like: drop two tracks into a DAW. do ZERO processing or adjustments to the tracks, just mix them at default levels etc. export the resulting track from the DAW as simply as possible. repeat with another DAW. if you keep it simple, a discussion can...

it's just that louder sounds more like that. it might be your speakers crapping out as things get loud.

nothing strange is going on.

Re: can i use output 3/4 for 2 separate external fx units?

simple. go into Preferences/Audio settings where you enabled that output. you currently have 3/4 stereo enabled. you need to enable 3 and 4 separately there, you'll see, there aren't many settings there.

Re: Is there any good book about Max For Live to recommend?

you're in luck! max/msp is fun to sit and code with. my only gripe is that it doesn't use any transferable skills to my professional life because you can only encapsulate Java into max modules. (I might be off on the exact details, it's been a few years), I wish it worked with Python or at least C/C...

Re: Is there any good book about Max For Live to recommend?

nope, it's all on the web and there are thousands of links on it. what is your intention for knowing about max4Live? it's all learnable but that takes YEARS of dedication, been there, got almost OK at it, had fun, it's overwhelming. browse the max4Live Library to see the incredible depths people tak...
