Sorry, I was away from my computer for a while. The problem is that I can't just click on a slider/knob in live and assign a midi cc to it (as far as I can tell.) I have to click on Midi map and then move a external midi controller in order to map the slider. And then it doesn't seem to actually tra...

So it seems that what I need to do is add a external instrument set to transmit to the proper midi port with no audio input set (as the external midi hardware unit is being summed in a external hardware mixer). Both good ideas which I'll explore after I get some sleep, but the reason why I'm after a fader is so my Mackie Control Universal will grab it so I can record tactile fader automation etc.
