Yearly "Save Live projects and Clip data as XML" reminder

We posted this jan 2005, just wanted to reiterate this desire, i.e. the annual reminder. Imagine the flexibility of using XML textual format to save Live's clip and project data. Then we can write wierd little perl scripts to wierd Live things.

Low overhead "No Output" tracks

This is something Logic has, a "No Output" track. Basically this is a zero-overhead track that allows you to store clips and bits of arrangement without deleting. For example, say I want to experiment with the arrangement (in the arrange view) and try other clip combinations or fancy cut-p...

"clip tank"

I think it would be useful to be able to drag clips into a "clip tank", that is- a region of space within the Live window space. Currently it is possible to drag a clip into a file folder via one of the file browsers. It would be more convenient to just drag a clip onto a screen region. Th...

Chomping at the bit for Live 6 however I noticed the last beta test version can't handle some of my 5.2 projects. Will wait a little longer for a few more bugs fixes. Congrats guys and good luck! You have now entered the domain of multithreaded apps and all sorts of insidious little race-condition b...

What about the Warper parties? http://www.warperparty.com/ laptop jamming, probably alot of ableton-heads there. My fav part about NYC is all the undercurrent happenings, so many get-togethers, parties, renegades all teeming under the surface. Sometimes there are even (all-night) outdoor renegades i...

auto-save

In the SW development world it would typicallly be called "checkpointing". I'll add that Cool Edit has had this feature for many years. And you're right, why don't other major apps have this feature by now? Probably because their design architecture won't allow it...i.e. early designs and ...

Once you, the electronic musician, start gigging on a more regular basis you will encounter the occasional patron who comes up to you, even while you've got two hands on your controllers, and a foot on the pedal, and maybe your head crossing the d-beam field, looking very intense like BB King playin...

Does that stanton have a line-level or phono RCA output? You need to know because if it's a phono output then you'll probably need a phono preamp. The RIAA phono output requires some equalisation, which is built-in to stereo hi-fi receivers and something like the Mackie BigBox, but typically not sou...

more limiting less compression

If you pick the proper threshold level for a *peak* limiter, you can increase the overall track level with virtually no compression effects. This is because most mixdowns contain "sonic whitecaps", summations that cause peak spikes that last for a very short duration, fractions of a millis...

face it, apple gave up on IBM. IBM hasn't come thru. The G5 design path has turned out to be unsuitable for laptop use. I love my G5 system but the damn thing weighs a ton and is the size of a small refridgerator. How big is an AMD 64-bit system with the closest performance? little beige box? What s...

apply clip color to selection of clips, yes please...

I typically color according to time (i.e. sections of projects) rather than track by track. This let's see visually when the upcoming breaks or section changes are going to occur. So, by having a feature where one could make a selection of time, objects, tracks, whatever, then apply the color to tho...
