Re: Mediocre Ableton performance on new iMac 2020?
I'm kinda keen to get something soon. Have Ableton mentioned any timeframe for a release of an M1 supported version of Live?

Re: New iMac or Wait?? Apple vs. Intel
Sorry to hijack this thread (although hopefully this could be useful to the OP too), does anyone here have experience with moving from something like a 2010 iMac to a 2015 (or thereabouts) machine? Or moving from something like an i3 duo core 3.2ghz processor to quad core 4ghz? Is there going to be ...

Re: Lock Recording / Lock tracks
Hey, thanks for this suggestion, but I've had no joy getting Blackhole to work at all. Soundflower works, but it's patchy and I get glitches and dropouts galore. I wonder if it's because I'm using a 2012 Firewire audio interface, perhaps? Or my mid-2010 iMac? Not sure.

Re: New iMac or Wait?? Apple vs. Intel
Hey FWIW, I installed an SSD in my mid-2010 27" iMac and it was like having a brand new computer. It was a bit of a surgical operation, but the online guide (from the shop that sells the SSDs) was very helpful and clear. I did this around 3 years ago, when I thought my computer was on its way o...

Re: Mediocre Ableton performance on new iMac 2020?
I've a 27" iMac, mid-2010 model. I put in my own 1TB SSD and upgraded the RAM to 12GB. The performance difference when I stuck the SSD in was massive! The old SATA HDD had started to get a bit laggy and slow (the old drive is still in the machine and it's always a scary prospect whenever I need...

"S" to fold track heights - Can I undo it?
I constantly save in Ableton (cmd+S). It's like a nervous twitch, but it's harmless and it gives me a sense of security when I do complex runs of edits etc. However, quite often (more than I care to admit) I accidentally press the "s" key instead of cmd+s, which folds all my tracks away to...

Lock Recording / Lock tracks
Wouldn't it be great if you could have a group of tracks folded away that will record things for you, but won't be disturbed while you are arming / disarming different tracks in a performance? Allowing you to record individual tracks for mixing later, while not getting in the way of you switching be...

Re: Recommendations for samplers (or looper type things)
Nice. Looks fun. I've subscribed.
I had to stop myself from applying for a credit card last night and splurging nearly a grand on the Octatrack........ Forgot I have still to get through Christmas, a holiday in Feb and my self-assessment tax to sort out .......... D'oh!

Re: Recommendations for samplers (or looper type things)
Wow! That’s really useful info. Thanks so much. I used to love working with my MC303 back in the day, I enjoyed the simple pattern based way of building up tracks, but I moved away from it when software came along. Maybe getting back into that workflow with a machine as flexible as the Octatrack, wo...

Re: Recommendations for samplers (or looper type things)
Not cheap, but the Octatrack does all that and more. Thanks for the reply, I've just watched this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaMyRUiG9NE - tutorial for sampling with the Octatrack MKII - and sampling seems incredibly cumbersome and full of menu-diving, I can imagine that the Octatrack is powe...

Recommendations for samplers (or looper type things)
TL;DR - I am looking for a sampler that will let me sample “on the fly” (very similarly to the Korg Kaoss Pad 3). BACK STORY I’ve been playing in a few bands over the years as a vocalist, occasionally triggering samples alongside the rest of the band (synth whoops, cheesy film samples, or the odd am...

Re: Reverse Sample for Drum Rack
And then 9.7 came along, and you can still do Simpler --> Sampler, but you can also reverse samples without the need to do that and you have many more ways to trigger, warp and edit a sample within the drum rack. Quite nice.

Re: Tempo Mapping Audio (Song) File
And also... (maybe I should start a new thread for this, but....) Is there a way to adjust the "tempo" of a midi track? So I recorded some midi notes, then needed to change the tempo of the project to fit some points where I edited the song, now the midi track is out of time. I know there'...

Re: Tempo Mapping Audio (Song) File
I'm working in Live 9 and trying to create a "medley" (ughh. I know, right?) for a friend. He's given me 3 backing tracks and wants me to add new elements: Whatever I want really, beats, synths, samples, he just wants me to spice up these fairly "general midi" sounding backing tr...

Re: Shortcut for directly drag-adjusting Gain of Samples in Arrangment View
I like this one! When you have a lot of audio files on one track and a lot of level automation, sometimes it's quicker to balance levels with the gain inside an audio file, but it means clicking into the audio file's options and changing the value there. A shortcut key + clicking and dragging the ga...
