Did you check out Native Instruments Maschine Software? It works that way. I have Maschine but sadly the arranger is lacking decent features like proper automation lanes etc still. four of the Bitwig team worked at Ableton previously, so I'm not sure "plagiarism" of Live is necessarily the correct word for it. they probably designed it in the first place
