Re: how do I make my tinny mix sound like Dark SIde of the Moon?
I may be completely wrong but it sounds like you have tweaked each sound in isolation instead of thinking about how it sounds in the mix. Also there seems to be too many different types of reverb going on, sounds a bit like you're playing in a big tin can. There is too much happening at once. Liste...

Re: how do I make my tinny mix sound like Dark SIde of the Moon?
ok. here we go. loops or not don't matter. "non-loopers" can be great or suck. great ones still "borrow" concepts, scales, problem solving techniques, etc... "loopers" can be biting, unoriginal, uncreative pathetic f#$%s, or just unknowing, or amazing musicians that re...

Re: how do I make my tinny mix sound like Dark SIde of the Moon?
To be fair, DSOTM used loops too - they just had to do it with tape. But, to the OP: I think your main issue is source-related. The ideas are fine, but the sounds seem a bit sterile. If your benchmark is DSOTM, remember you're comparing yourself against a pro studio using a pro mixing desk and anal...

Re: how do I make my tinny mix sound like Dark SIde of the Moon?
When I say loops I mean the use of readymade loops. You can use Garageband's loops and make a track entirely of them. I don't mind.. But that's not how Pink Floyd made music if you're still wondering. Well, no, they didn't use someone else's loops, but they did record and dub, as does everybody. In...

Re: how do I make my tinny mix sound like Dark SIde of the Moon?
IMO if you listen to 99% of Beatport you hear several same fx on alot on artists tracks from a well known cd, ofc you entitled to say that about loops, but loops can be totally changed, split and sound entirely different. Dont agree with original point?, house music was built on loops and samples f...

Re: how do I make my tinny mix sound like Dark SIde of the Moon?
It's just not original. well wait a minute. every pop song that ever sold more than 10 copies features about two - four bass riffs. period. maybe some fills. maybe not. you might be saying that "looping isn't original." But that's like saying that "typing" isn't original. Just b...

what is it about loops...? I mean, I know they're obnoxious, but why?abl385 wrote:Without the use of loops.
ok, what's the point in asking that? I know what I need to do. You sort of reminded me that I used this medium as a composition scratchpad. Now I need to actually record the thing.

Re: Getting my instruments to sit nicely in the mix
I would always look at "orchestration" , chord voicings and arranging before looking at (EQ) frequency carving. It's not equally applicable to every musical style, but writing so instruments sit and play well together will prevent you spending ages trying to carve holes into errant overla...

This is excellent work. If I didn't swing my own axe, I'd use it.

tracks OK, now what?
OK,another newb post from a newb and YES I've read the manual. Well, some of it. But this is a conceptual question. So I have a few tracks down, and frankly I've been horsing with this thing for so long I just want to git 'r dun . I didn't use a lot of effects on the tracks, mainly because I don't u...
