Re: mixing and stuff
thx for the ideas and info. I haven't done anything with "sends" yet...not sure where to begin with those.
seems like a joystick would be the right tool to do this with.

Re: mixing and stuff
Lost of practice and experimentation is the only... readings will show you the road but you have to walk it... Im no expert in stereo imaging either.. just though you like the article... before that for me imaging was all about the pan... Yeah, that seems logical, until you read the article, and th...

Re: newbie mystified by this thing.
no worries all. my original post was cranky, anyway. Right now I'm feeling good because the first track and official "composition" is progressing satisfactorily. When I hit a wall, I'll be cranky again. There's no substitute for doing your own homework. OTOH, when someone asks a question, ...

Re: bass
funny about this process. I dug up an old "bass" track I made from a guitar on Audacity and it's the best one of the bunch, so far. And of course, as the bass IS after all a stringed instrument, it has the most "basslike" quality, which is what I was after. My rudimentary bass s...

Re: bass
currently on a pc, dreaming about a mac. a long time ago I ran the axe into Audacity and was able to, with a couple of really simple tweaks (pitch shift and bass boost) render a bottom-dwelling string sound. But I figured Live must have the most excellent such gizmos and that audacity was a fossil i...

Re: mixing and stuff
homeboy, that spoke directly, clearly, and emphatically to my question. Thank you. It's like red meat to me. The Haas Effect -- that's my home. Now then, how does a newbie start to apply this knowledge in Live? I guess I'm going to have to pull in a delay tool to my rhythm guitar track, for example?...

mixing and stuff
OK, this is pretty basic.
How can I describe this...a live set with say 6 tracks on it...everything seems to happen in your face...I gather that making music feel 3-D is about volume and fading?
Does anyone get what I'm trying to say? I need more texture in this thing.

Re: bass
all, great suggestions, esp. that last. I didn't subscribe to the thread, and just remembered it today 'cuz I'm going to post another question on yet another thread (stay tuned). I don't want to take the time to learn another instrument, get another amp, deal with more stuff...but I probably should ...

60ms. Right now it's not an issue...for the moment. How much latency does your system say? Most decent audio interfaces can get below 10ms as long as the computer is fast as well.

any ideas on an approach to making a decent sounding electric bass? NOT a synth thing, or a slappy thing. The MIDI approach, when played from a straight midi keyboard, seems to chop the notes up too much.
I haven't figured a way to use my guitar and tweak the sound so that it sounds like a bass.
