Freeze the MIDI tracks, then flatten them, and you've instantly got audio tracks. No need to sample or bounce MIDI tracks to audio and it's much, much quicker.
I quite often do this to cut down on CPU usage and all my PA sets are done like this. 8)

Working around audio cutoffs when changing scenes?
I'm running a 2009 Macbook Pro (13 inch) with Ableton Live 8.2.2. I'm currently working with a huge project (28 scenes, around 30 tracks, including 3 or 4 external VSTs), and am beginning to experience the audio stuttering and/or cutting off for a moment when switching between scenes (CPU usage is ...
