Re: Most listened to Album this year?

Glass Candy - B/E/A/T/B/O/X (yes, I'm a bit behind the times) http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=1140474 especially Digital Versicolour, this simple electronic track gives me chills each time I listen and was used on the movie Bronson, the legendary psycho British jailbird. http://www.youtube...

Re: Using Ableton Exclusively

I sometimes do whole projects using Live, and sometimes using mostly Live's FX (I have L7 Suite) but it is not typical behaviour for me. Using just Live and it's inbuilt plugins is a bit too restrictive for certain projects both in functionality and plugin quality, so I often finish in a different D...

Re: noisy neighbour

Get a super loud hifi system (or hire a concert PA like they use at Glastonbury etc) with a fuck off subwoofer, put it as close to the dividing wall as you can with the speakers pointing at the wall and play Venetian Snares (the loudest RMS music, even louder than Metallica's Death Magnetic) at a vo...

Re: Things you want to see explained/worked through in video?

joking of course, but if I ever wanted a broke ass buddy to sing the blues with, with a bottle of whisky lifted from a cheap and nasty liquor store and a one eyed, three legged dog and an ancient guitar with 3 strings missing in a creaking deserted barn, you'd be right up there ;)

Re: Volume Too Low When Rendering Audio

read Tarekith's guide. Learn about dynamics. Remember that commercial material has usually been professionally mastered - one part of the mastering process is indeed using limiters/volume maximizers to push the gain higher, unless you're doing music for soundtracks or classical. In electronic dance ...

Re: Most comfortable studio headphones

I have a subscription to Sound On Sound - they give great reviews to several headphones in that article you refer to (Jan 2010) and with 5 people reviewing, not everyone liked the DT880 the best, although it was given a good review and rightly so - it was voted the best in it's price category . So i...

Re: if live 9 is not 64-bit...

There are still plenty of plugins that Sonar's bit bridge doesn't work for. Also X1 is not for everyone, I personally HATE the GUI. (but respect the power of the program).

Re: Favorite Waves plugins you couldn't do without?

Waves is still 32 bit only, as is UAD, as is Powercore (I believe they're in 64 bit on beta), as is SSL Duende and Focusrite Liquidmix etc. As is the DDMF plugins. Some of these work with J-Bridge, which is a better bitbridge system than anything included with Reaper, Cubase or Sonar, but not all of...

Re: For sale: Camel Audio's Alchemy $110 (dave ramsey said sell)

I have a crack in my arse. Very useful for passing faeces and not imploding or requiring a colostomy bag.

Alchemy is a very decent synth, with some great sound content - but being broke and possibly homeless soon, I get you.

Re: 1,914 Guitars smashed... to celebrate...

Smashing up instruments is sooooo 1966. Boring  But the HRC got the publicity they needed from everyone talking about it and blogging it ... best thing to do would be to not mention it, not give them any media attention and just boycott the restaurant with their disgusting over priced burgers....

I think the 600s are awesome cans too, in case anyone misunderstands. Yes, it is a question of personal taste.

I have owned the 650s for 6 years. I don't own 600s but have used them before at my friend's studio many times.

Re: Favorite Waves plugins you couldn't do without?

DDMFs LP10 for me is as good if not better than Waves Q10 and massively cheaper (but not in the sound). Also nice GUI with spectral analyser (only caveat - 64 bit versions not yet available, but since Live is still a 32 bit DAW no issues). It also has a very effective M/S processing mode, or allows ...

Re: Most comfortable studio headphones

My mileage does vary ! Both are great. Learn to compensate for both of them, as you do for studio monitors and you can make them close to neutral. None of them (or anything else, including DT880s, DT990s, or AKG 701 or 702) are totally neutral out of the box, they have to be burned in and then you l...
