Re: Tracks are quiet, even limited to 0 DB with no dynamic range

Not to come across as giving conflicting advice, but multiple stages of dynamic reduction doesn't always give you the loudest master. It's definitely something I use a lot (and I'm glad limiters like DMG's Limitless offer this internally in one plug in), but there's times I've found it backfires to...

Re: My bass sounds have a higher pitch

I find that sometimes there are overtones in a bass sound that makes it sound off pitch by a few cents or even as much as a semitone. But not always. Does this happen to all your bass sounds? Do the sounds sound off in the higher registers? What he said - it often is your reproduction system causin...

Re: SideChaining With Volcano

Ok, let me try that - here is where the "side chaining" comes in. I did it in Logic and there you use the sidechain to get it to work (track 1 out to a bus1, track 2 using midi controlled Volcano instance with bus1 selected in Sidechain, then play midi on the volcano track to trigger volcano envelo...

Re: SideChaining With Volcano

Ok, how exactly do you have this set up? The "sidechain" function of Volcano is just like it is on a compressor - it is made that V2 can "hear" a different track so its internal dynamic processes (envelope triggers/followers and so on) can be affected by a different track than the one it is filterin...

Re: Tracks are quiet, even limited to 0 DB with no dynamic range

Your track has two major issues: Too Much Low End: You seem to love the bass. There is nothing wrong with that, but you have to be very careful when working with bass-heavy material. The issue is that low frequency information requires more energy for "equivalent" volume than high frequency informat...

Re: Mixing Sound for Video

I wouldn't even attempt it in Ableton, as much as I love the program. It is far too settled around the "bar-beat" timeline, and lacks basic tools for working with freeform audio - you'd need an external editor, for one, to do destructive edits in detail... Personally, if they used Premiere, I'd look...

Re: Getting a full synth sound in Ableton Live 9 Suite

I'm shocked, shocked to learn that somebody who is brand new to music production and synthesis "can't get the synth sound [they] want." Way to be totally useless! You have no sense of entitled arrogance at all. I am absolutely astounded at your level of humility, seriously, how do you manage? :roll...

Re: Why is my microphone input so low?

Well the Sure SM58 is really best used for stage work, but is not really meant for recording. I mean sure you can record things, but the overall sound and its insensitive nature - as you experienced - is not very good for voice or most instrument recordings compared to many condenser microphones. A...

Re: New USB sound card

With my recent upgrade to Windows 10, it has rendered my Presonus Firebox useless since there are apparently no drivers compatible with it. I figure it's a good time to upgrade and get something new and was wondering what people are using? My only real requirement is at least 4 audio in/out and MID...

Re: Why the hell are my $10 ear buds louder than my $400 cans?

Impedance vs power. Easy reason. Buy a headphone amp - good ones aren't cheap. Ones built into [audio] interfaces ("sound cards") range from crap to serviceable, tending strongly towards the former. Though there is a correlation between interface price and headphone amp quality, even the "best" inte...

Re: Pitch shifter for vocals.

My bad, I mis-read your original post. The easiest way to get the "widening effect" (usually referred to as "micro-tune") is with some sort of simple delay that can offset the pitch very slightly. This isn't actually all that processor-intensive, as long as you don't need it in real time - the reaso...

Re: Pitch shifter for vocals.

Hi all I am trying to do some subtle pitch shifting on the lead vocal to thicken it and bring it out of the mix, like they do in hip-hop / pop etc. I have tried to use the Ableton Frequency Shifter effect, but I am not getting the required results. I think a frequency shifter and pitch shifter oper...

Re: In-Ear headphones?

I like the Shure 325's for a reasonably priced dual-driver design, ... You must mean the SE425, like Tarekith's. One step below are the SE3 1 5, which are a single-driver design "with Tuned BassPort" (Shure's marketing speech). I have those for casual listening and like them for their neutrality. Y...

Re: Mapping to gaming mouse?

you don't need max for live on mac for CERTAIN things for mapping the mouse to. They have to be visible commands in the program menu (Live, File, Edit, Create, View, Options, Help) if not then yes, max for live will be your friend. I know Deadmau5 has the razer chroma keyboard and he's assigned fun...
