So you master for people. Do artists ever master their own tracks or is it traditionally sent to mastering engineers (whatever they're called).

Pretty new to music production. Can someone give me a basic rundown of what mastering is and a good way to do it. Or link me a tutorial about it, because I can't find out that explains it that well.

Oh. So like if I'm using only one oscillator and it has 2 and I press three notes it'll play the two newest ones and cancel out the first one since it can only do two at a time?

I don't have it yet. But my midi mixer worked on the demo version without me activating the 30-day trial. So it probably will work. I just wanted to make sure.

I only have the demo version of Ableton right now, because I can't afford the full version. I was wondering if a midi controller would work with the demo. Like a midi keyboard.

Okay I think I finally figured it out. But I think I was looking at it differently then you were explaining.

I looked at it this way, and it seems to be correct.

If my threshold is -24 dB then I imagine my output as being -24 dB, and if my ratio is 2.00 then it adds 12 dB to the output making it ...

And what did you mean by "when the input level is below threshold (-24 dB), the output level is the same as the input."? were you referring to the picture I posted and can you please explain more on what that means.

why would it increase by half of a dB? and why would you add 2.5 dB to the output? wouldn't it be 2.00 dB?
