This was an awesome post! I'm just dipping my toes in the waters of Live, and it is certainly overwhelming at first. I'm having the same issue with Synth1.vst. I'm using Live for APC (upgraded to 8.2.6) on a Macbook.
If I find anything out, I'll come back and post here.
