Ah, the good old days! I was a helicopter pilot in the Marine Corps for 11 years, and one of the best parts was that you didn't need to land at airports. There could be any number of reasons why they landed. It may have been a precautionary landing due to weird cockpit readings, sounds or vibrations...

Make sure you click the "IN" button in the mixer section (next to "AUTO") in order to monitor the input.
