Re: Live 11 TV / Film scoring?

Hit points... well, my personal style is to try to avoid hitting things, unless it makes sense. I usually work in dramatic genres, where hitting cuts or anything "important" might be too on-the-nose. If you do need to hit something, meter changes, or a well planned tempo map is a better op...

Re: Live 11 TV / Film scoring?

Yeah, they are Cliff's project. I've produced several of these scores with him, and Live is always the go to DAW. It's definitely the best means of exchanging sessions and working quickly. We've always managed to work around the scoring limitations of Live, but could certainly make some suggestions ...

Re: Live 11 TV / Film scoring?

I've been using Live for film and tv scoring for several years now. I usually go back and forth between Live, Logic, and DP... depending on the needs of the project. As far as I can tell, there's nothing new in Live 11 that is film scoring specific. I've been asking for a way to keep the video windo...

Composing to picture with Live's video window

Please guys... fix the video engine. It shouldn't have to be so taxing on Live. Look at the latest ProTools release. Big video engine improvement. I believe it uses the OS quicktime engine instead of an internal video playback engine (like Live does). I've been scoring a new series, entirely in Live...

Any new updates on using Live for film/tv scoring work?

Haven't posted here in a while, but I have a few thoughts on improving Live to do film/tv scoring work. Mostly things to do with the video window. Would love to hear any other ideas, or work arounds for these quirks. Btw... I do use DP, Logic, ProTools, and VEP for scoring work as well, but nothing ...

Re: Ableton Live 10 for TV Film Scoring?

I've scored several films in Live 8 - 10. I don't think there are any specific improvements in Live 10 for this type of music, unless the group midi editing function helps you. I've used it for some string arrangement edits while looking at all of the sections at once. I have asked Ableton a hundred...

Re: Why does Live 10 still insist on hiding the video window?

That's interesting. I'm on the Mac version. Maybe it behaves differently on Windows. This would be such a useful option if Ableton could add it.

Why does Live 10 still insist on hiding the video window?

Of all the DAWs that I use to compose, Live is the only one that has to hide the video window when the program is not in front. This is so frustrating when you're trying to audition sounds outside of Live, or working with multiple programs. Please, give Live an option to keep the video window visibl...

Re: Any way to stop Live 10 from adding date when consolidating?

Thanks for the reply. I have an app called Name Changer that does batch renaming, and removing extra characters. Just seems like it should be more of a preference than a feature.

Any way to stop Live 10 from adding date when consolidating?

Live 10 has a new behavior that adds a date at the end of the audio file name when you consolidate an audio edit. I've looked everywhere, but don't see a preference to switch this off. It's very cumbersome when building sample instruments. Any thoughts on how to change this behavior?

thanks!

Re: Clicks on all tracks during tempo change

After a lot of testing, I was able to narrow the problem down to one track. It’s not coming from any plugins, but there is an audio file that extends across my tempo change. It’s not warped, although I did try trying warping in and had the same clicking problem. It just seems to be coming from the f...

Re: Clicks on all tracks during tempo change

I may not have explained this problem correctly. I'm not using any audio files, it's all MIDI. I don't have any automation break points over the tempo change, except of course the tempo line in the MASTER track. It's difficult to tell whether the click is coming from the tail of an instrument ringin...

Clicks on all tracks during tempo change

I use Live for film scoring work, and often have tempo changes. They are always direct changes, instead of linear ramps. So, the cue can be playing at 90bpm, and then change to 110bpm on a downbeat. Every time this happens, Live clicks. It gets recorded in an offline bounce also. I've eliminated all...

Re: Keeping the video window active when Live is not in front

Does anyone know if the video window has been changed for Live 10? Always open options would be nice to finally get. Also using the QuickTime engine in the OS instead of Live’s CPU would be better. Timecode support is just dreaming out loud.

Re: Keeping the video window active when Live is not in front

Well, I posted this topic almost a year ago and all it has gotten is alot of +1s. This isn't even the first thread that I've made about this topic. It's been going for years. I don't really think that Ableton cares about the video abilities of Live. It's too bad though. Live is a great film scoring ...
