Is there a microtonal Max for Live Sampling instrument?
I noticed the Sufi Plugins North African M4L stuff, but is anyone building a microtonal (user definable pitch ratios) sampler ? Would be really, really cool. You can key map individual samples in Live's Sampler and then detune or raise each by cent-based increments, but it can be a bit tedious and t...

Re: Is Ableton really for Electronic Musicians?
How do you define Electronic Music? ... Trying to pin down the definition of concepts like Art, Artist, Music, Musician, etc just emphasizes the ambiguity of human language. whatever definition you arrive at will exclude a lot examples that should really be included. This makes for fascinating endl...

Re: Is Ableton really for Electronic Musicians?
Interesting comments. I find them especially interesting because I've pretty much ditched the computer for playing live (I primarily play bowed and plucked strings and hand percussion). But I still absolutely love Live for it's workflow and ability to do quite well with creating more "tradition...

Re: Portable Battery-Powered Busking PA Suggestions?
Hey thanks folks, The little guitar amps are just not loud enough, I'm afraid (for the type of busking I'm talking about). I've been using a Roland Cube Street, but it's only 5 watts and not nearly enough to draw a large circle in a decent sized pedestrian mall. The two I mentioned are around 30-40 ...

Portable Battery-Powered Busking PA Suggestions?
So, anyone here had any experience with any of the portable battery powered PAs out there? I'm specifically looking at stuff like the Roland BA 330 or the Samson XP40iw to do circle act style busking in large pedestrian mall settings. I'd rather not have to deal with a separate deep cell battery and...

Any tips on places to play in Auckland and NZ in general?
My music is Mideast Electro body. Anyone know of some good venues for that sort of thing in NZ in general? Look to book some stuff before my visa runs up in April. Posted this also in Local. Thanks!

I love technology as it helps me make music, but this discussion reminds me why this will always remain my main musical tool:

Re: Motu's Ethno Instrument inside Maschine?
Ethno World 5 is a fair bit more expensive, though, but thanks. Also, I like that Ethno Inst 2 has microtuning in Scala format, which is easily editable via text edit. Even Quantum Leap Ra or Silk doesn't have user edibility like that for its microtuning. I need to be much more specific than "A...

Re: Motu's Ethno Instrument inside Maschine?
I'll definitely do so. I'm thinking of getting Ethno 2. I'll give the UVI workstation a look. Thanks for the info!

Motu's Ethno Instrument inside Maschine?
Just bought Maschine recently, and I'm contemplating laying down for Ethno Instrument. Right now, I'm preferring to run Maschine standalone and was wondering if anyone here is using Ethno Inst. successfully inside Maschine standalone. Any issues? Running great?
