Re: Boosting above 0db using digital EQs i.e. EQ8 in Live

There's no good reason for your track to be that loud. While Live's floating point math may allow for internal signals above 0, some of your plugins may not sound as good being fed a signal that hot. Somebody posted an article on here somewhere about mixing inside the box, and why some folks think D...

Re: Compressor Mystery for Audio geeks!

This thread is a good example of why we adjust these things with our ears. Too easy to overthink it, and get unpredictable/undesirable results. Interesting observations and discussion, but ultimately - just use your ears.

Re: Automating Reason Filters

You use Rewire, and in arrangement view you add an automation lane. Haven't really messed with it in session view.

Re: Another Problem: Chords coming out as a single note

As the other two posters have alluded, this is most likely a polyphony setting of 1 in the synth program. This is quite common on lead and bass programs. Try a pad program - bet you'll get full chords.

Re: rendering tracks

It doesn't matter what bpm you render. Wav files don't know what a bpm is.

Re: Rendering a 1 Hour Mix into separate Tracks?

My preference for this sort of thing is to export as one file, then use track markers in the CD burning app with 0 second gap.

Re: Midi merge solution needed software and or software

Can you post a drawing or diagram of your MIDI connections? Keep in mind that many units do not have a dedicated MIDI thru port, but will pass messages received on the input to the output. This may be a configuration setting called MIDI Echo.

Re: Can't pan a mono audio track?

I only saw one smartass post that may have been directed at you (but not even sure about that one), so I'm not sure why you're worked up. I can't speak to the version of Live you're using, but the reason no one has a good answer for you is that there is no logical reason that should happen. Mono tra...

Re: Making a clip with pick-up notes.

Alternatively, you can also make it a 2 bar loop, use an envelope to mute the stuff before the pickup notes, and launch it a bar early.

Re: Rewire: Not Enough Memory

I've been getting it, too, since installing M-Audio Axiom with Direct Link, Novation Nocturn, and latest version of Automap (Santa was good to me). I just ignore it. I've even gone and used Rewire with Reason, and not encountered any actual problems.

Find drum grooves you like and transcribe them. After a few, you'll start to get an idea of what to do.

Re: Normalizing bounces detract from audio quality?

I'll also add that we don't mix waveforms, we mix sounds. Go by your ears. Also, when I record anything, either DI or with a Mic, I leave 3-6 dB of headroom (in 24 bit) to prevent overs. So if your exported tracks are peaking at -3 to -6 dB, that sounds about right.

Re: Normalizing bounces detract from audio quality?

In theory, normalizing causes a recalculation of the bits, and introduces an additional level of rounding - however minuscule that may be in Live. For that reason, some folks say to never ever normalize. My view is that normally you should have 6-15 dB of headroom on your master bus anyway. If non-n...
