Re: Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra

If you're using a PC, Get the SFZ sound font player. It's gray and boring looking, but works great. There's a link from this page to download it:

Re: How do i create a key signature in ableton 8?

I have several tracks that don't follow normal keys, or that pop an odd flat or sharp. It's good to stay in key, but there are times to break the rules too :D One thing I do a lot (almost always), is I compose and do everything in C major/A minor and then use the pitch MIDI effect to change keys. Th...

Re: To those who upgraded from Live 8-9.

I keep my old version. A 1TB drive cost about $100 last time I checked (probably cheaper now). That means hard drive storage costs $1 for 10GB. So keeping 15 gigs around costs me $1.50 in hard drive storage. I'll happily spend less than a cup of coffee costs to be sure that if something fucks up I c...

Re: Export Stems

When you export, under 'Rendered Track' you can select 'All Tracks' and this will export all of your audio stems, including those coming from the effect channels and the master. However the return tracks' audio outputs will be the combined mix (ie if you have a reverb return track, you get the audio...

Re: Sound Effects Smoke Machine

Here's how I would go about it: Find a similar pink/white noise recording from real life - waterfall noise, fan noise, etc. Play with Auto-Pan tuned to mono to create the 'stuttering' effect. Equalize as needed. Add Frequency Sweep with Auto-Pan. Be aware that most of what makes the effect shooting ...

Re: How do I keep the Spectrum on master Track Open?

There's a free VST called Voxengo Span that is amazing. I find it better than Live's built in spectrum. It can do exactly what you want it to. In fact you can have multiple spectrums simultaneously if you want. I don't think Live is able to do what you want. You'll have to find another solution, and...

Re: Sidechaining to layered kicks

there's no need to do all that things, unless You really want to have a extremely accurate attack, which is not that good idea. All You need is to set the side chain to the drum rack track and set the inner compressor filter to sort the sound w/ lowpass and freq set to ~90Hz. You'll get a full drum...

Sounds like a problem with Ableton Live's export engine. Have you tried reinstalling Ableton Live?

Re: Guide to determing CPU needs

I think a dual core will work well for you. Also take the time to learn CPU reduction tricks like using all of your reverbs in effects sends so you don't need more than a few, freezing tracks, routing audio so you can freeze tracks with sidechain compression, etc. I used to produce in Ableton Live w...

I wrote an article about the normal (logical) progression of purchasing equipment for electronic music artists:

Re: Do you turn your studio monitors off?

Electronic devices receive wear both from being turned on and from being constantly on. Which causes more depends on a huge number of factors. In studio monitors you basically have a power supply and a transistor audio amplifier. I'd say what's most likely electronic part to fail is the capacitors i...

Re: Gate plugin - Useful settings for vocals/minimsing feedback?

You mean reduce ambient noise bleeding through? A gate will not be very useful for minimizing feedback. Feedback is when you get that horrible screech when the microphone is too close to the speakers. If you're getting feedback then you need to work on other parts of your sound setup. Otherwise if y...

Re: Noise Reduction without external plugins

For the next project find a way to record with less noise? Are you using a high quality audio interface? microphone? pre-amp? If you have good equipment in a quiet room, it should be easy to work around without the noise being noticeable.

Re: Physical mem 80% process 45

If you run a stability test program (google prime 95) does it find errors? If it does than it's your hardware. If not, then you'll know it's a software problem. Do you have anything more to narrow down your issue? When does it happen specifically?
