Re: Digidesign Command 8 + Ableton live ??
I've had nothing but hurt from trying to use the Command 8 with anything other than Pro Tools. It IS possible, but really irritating, as it doesn't follow any standard protocol, so you have to re-map every single thing, and not all the buttons even send MIDI that Live can use. I would advise against...

Now THIS is a real topic.
Has it outlived it's usefulness?
Is it an important part of many folks' workflow?

Re: Get rid of video in Live
Totally disagree.
I use Live for sound design to picture all the time, and I use the M4L video effects in performance along with the audio capabilities of Live.
I wish it was more capable, but in fact, it's not half bad.

Re: SSD users: Anyone upgrade and clone their prior HD?
Oh yeah, you better back it up. I had a real nice OWC Mercury Extreme SSD in my 15" MBP which really made it clear I could probably get another year or so out of the 5 year old machine, maxed out to 6 GB, with both FW 400 and 800 and expresscard, all things I use that new machines don't have so...

Re: Prevent Sampler from ending previous note when retriggered?
Why this is a graphic design flaw is that the R looks identical to the R that would be chosen to select only the right channel in the other pane. It ought to spell it out or distinguish it with a graphic.

This is great. however, I've lost the ability to launch Synapse on my main user account. Confusing!

Re: budget midi controllers that double as midi interfaces
The thing that the OP asked about was a MIDI controller that was also a MIDI interface. The Korg mini series are all fine USB MIDI controllers for sure, but are not interfaces to the world of MIDI hardware, unlike the UC-33 or the padKontrol. For instance, a morcoKorg and a UC-33 make a good team wi...

Re: budget midi controllers that double as midi interfaces
The Evolution UC-33 is one of the best simple MIDI control / interfaces ever made, IMHO. It can be a rigamarole to find the editor software, but it exists, now from M-Audio. It seems that most others want the software to do everything, but the UC-33 lets you access all of the MIDI elements natively....

Yeah, check out JuXion.

There are also M4L ways to do this, but while M4L is awesome, it is also expensive.

Re: Is the M-Audio Fast Track any good?
It's pretty mediocre; I only bought it because my M-box wasn't working at all and I had a gig that day! I still use it, but not for live or real studio work; just as an output for my old computer while the newer ones gets the MOTU and Apogee interfaces. I do like it's connectivity for the price, but...

Re: The (hopefully soon to be) ultimate SURROUND sound topic!
I use Live for 6 channel performances quite often using M4L as a workaround, but it is a royal pain to get working even close to correctly. And no, Logic is not the way to go for this, as ReWire disables M4L where I build my stochastic systems. And yes, I have to bring my own speakers. I use Logic f...

Re: field recorders with internal mics 2010
Marantz PMD 661 is what I settled on after quite a bit of research. Excellent build quality, suitable for professional field work, and really quite good built-in mics. Zooms are great, but they aren't nearly as durable or reliable, and the mics aren't all that good for quiet sounds; they also don't ...

Re: iPhone/iTouch - max 5 external
Too bad it's still unreliable. I really tried so hard to keep it working... it worked great for a few days and then no more, but there's just not enough information available to troubleshoot when it doesn't work.
I'll check back though in a few weeks.

Re: How solid is Live8 for you?
After years of Live being the most hassle-free software I regularly use, and after a super-intense 74 minute set with 80+ tracks running perfectly for two months for a live opera-type show, I have returned from tour to my home studio to find that LIve won't open AT ALL on my main studio machine, G5 ...
